In this course we will discuss bullying. Students will learn what bullying is, why it happens, what to do about it, and how to help others. It is unfortunate that bullying continues even with the awareness that it has received over the years. Learners should be equipped with the tools to know how to handle a situation and know who they can talk to if they feel they are a target. First, learners need to understand what bullying is and where it happens. Second, it is important for learners to understand why people bully and to recognize the signs. Lastly, the course will provide tools for learners to be able to handle different situation and seek out the necessary help they may need. This course is an ongoing course, but learners are able to come and go as they need. There is no experience required to join this class. The format will be discussion while pairing with slides. The slides will provide a guide to what will be discussed. Learners have a right to feel safe and secure and this course will give them the tools to do so. Teacher expertise and credentials
I have 20 years experience working with young people. Many of those years the youth were considered "at-risk-youth". This experience has been in a clinical setting, community setting and public school setting. Working with both the offenders and victims I have a great deal of knowledge on this subject. I hold a master's degree in Human Services specializing in Health and Wellness. I was also trauma certified in 2014. I was the Clinical Supervisor for an outpatient treatment facility overseeing behavior plans, facilitating social skills groups and teaching young learners how their choices directly impact their life. My career has focused on youth and helping them make healthy choices for themselves.
