Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will improve reading fluency and reading comprehension through thought organization techniques and graphic organizers.
I have taught middle and high school English Language Arts for 15 years. I have taught English literature and composition for advanced students preparing for private high schools with even higher aspirations of attending ivy league schools. I have taught at all grade levels from grades 4 through 12. I have tutored adult college students in these areas as well. I have taught students with minimal English and have taught seventh grade students who read at first grade level. I have achieved great success for myself while completing courses in my doctoral program. My sons have severe ADHD. I provide accommodations to all students and allow time for transitions and challenging discussion as is appropriate to your student's level of learning.
Non-Fiction Study: Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law This non-fiction book can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Fuzz-When-Nature-Breaks-Law/dp/1324001933 You will need paper of some sort, a pencil, a good eraser, and some kind of coloring utensil such as a colored pencil. Dollar stores have great erasers! You may want to keep your classwork items in an organizer of some kind.
Immediate verbal feedback and clarification is provided throughout class.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
***Students must have their camera turned on. This is not a lecture type of class. Students will be encouraged to participate and usually do so easily. Your student's presence adds to the atmosphere of the class. If you student is unwilling to keep their cameras on, I will dismiss them from class. Engagement is key in student understanding and I need to see a visual to gauge your student's participation and understanding so that I may reteach a topic or review if necessary.***

Please be aware that this book contains topics that may upset some readers due to understanding or personal experience. Topics Include:
moral urgency, conservation, forensic science, death of humans by an animal, human-wildlife conflict, human behavior, wildlife biology,
conservation genetics, bait, animal rights, birth control for monkeys, and biology.

Please review this content before registering for this course. At the very least please read through reviews that can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Fuzz-When-Nature-Breaks-Law/dp/1324001933. Registration for this class is your agreement that you have reviewed the content and are sure that your student is comfortable discussing these topics.
