Class experience
The Bible represents a major foundation for the metaphor and symbolism found within the Western Canon. Understanding its stories allows one to understand the cultural shorthand that authors and playwrights have used for more than a millennia. I was raised within the United Church of Canada to view the Bible as a historical and literary document. I attended a year of theological studies at McGill University, in Montreal, Quebec. I'm currently agnostic or even atheist, but fascinated by Biblical history.
Students will be required to have access to a copy of the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) of the Bible. This can be online or hard copy. Students will be expected to have this available at every class.
The Bible includes violence and sex. If you have concerns about those topics being discussed, please contact me so we can discuss the concerns.
