In this course, students can improve & enjoy their lightsaber play with guided, fencing-based instruction from a Jedi. A great exercise opportunity!
Class experience
Students will be taught to understand what types of lightsabers are commercially available. Students will also be taught regarding safety gear commonly used in fencing sports. Other topics covered will include proper movement of a combatant, how to properly hold the lightsaber, how to move, defend, & attack, & counter with proper form. The student will learn: Understanding of available lightsabers and basic safety gear. This includes understanding the traits of different lightsabers, from toys to collectibles to combat-grade. Basic proficiency in Form I (Shii-Cho) lightsaber combat. This includes movement, defense, attack, counter-attack, & feints.
Homework Offered
The teacher will expect the student to attempt the shown techniques and upload a video recording demonstrating their attempt to the class.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
The teacher will view student video responses and provide written assessments, encouragements, guidance.Grades Offered
Any single-bladed lightsaber of any design, preferably 25-32 inch blade, depending on the student's age. You can use a toy saber, or a saber from Galaxy's Edge, or a custom saber from sabersmiths like Saberforge or Ultrasabers. Substitute a dowel rod or other sturdy, lightweight rod if you don't have a lightsaber.
