Becoming a Word Sleuth
In this course the students will develop vocabulary skills, to understand and break down new words. The classes will focus on these topics: the process of syllabication, prefixes, suffixes, using context clues and inferencing.

Description
Class Experience
Students will use syllabication rules to decode multisyllabic unknow words. They will learn about prefixes and suffixes and how they affect the meaning of words. We also will use context clues and inferencing in small passages. Topic 1 Introduction and the rules of Syllabication 1 and 2 , Topic 2 Rules of syllabication 1-3 and study of prefixes Topic 3 Rules of syllabication 1-4 and study of prefixes ,Topic 4 Rules of Syllabication 1-4 and introduction to suffixes
I am a certified Reading specialist, elementary education and Special Education Teacher. Teaching children to love reading is what I love to do.
Students will be expected to try to use at least one-three new words in a sentence independently each week.
Students will be given a one page hand out before class on the rules of syllabication we are using. Students will need either a paper pencil or dry erase board and dry erase markers markers for every class
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will refer to the rules of syllabication
