2-4 hours per week. Students will be assigned weekly readings from The American Pageant (2019) by David M. Kennedy and Elizabeth Cohen to reinforce key historical concepts, provide deeper context, and strengthen analytical skills. Additional readings may include primary and secondary sources, textbook excerpts, and scholarly articles relevant to each unit. All students are required to complete the assigned readings, as they provide essential background for discussions, activities, assessments, and overall comprehension of key historical concepts. These readings will help students develop the critical thinking and analytical skills necessary for success on the AP exam. Exceptions can be discussed for students who need accommodations, ensuring that all learners can engage with the material in a way that best supports their success.Mastery Evaluation
Quizzes, Midterm, and Final Exam Students will complete a quiz after every unit, plus a midterm and final exam, to reinforce key concepts and build AP exam skills. Quizzes (After Every Unit) Short multiple-choice and short-answer quizzes covering key themes. Helps students practice AP-style questions and track progress. Midterm Exam Covers Periods 1-5 with multiple-choice, short-answer, and an essay. Assesses understanding and prepares students for the AP exam format. Final Exam Comprehensive review of all nine periods with AP-style questions. Tests students’ ability to analyze historical themes and apply reasoning skills. What Learners Receive: Feedback on assessments to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Opportunities to review and ask questions before moving forward. Low-pressure, supportive assessment approach focused on growth, not just grades. These assessments ensure students track their progress, refine their skills, and feel confident for the AP exam.Progress Report
Grading Options Grading in this course is flexible because every student learns differently, and a one-size-fits-all grading system isn’t always the most effective way to measure progress. Progress Reports (Default Option) – All students will receive detailed feedback and performance updates based on quizzes, the midterm, and the final exam, helping them track their understanding without the pressure of a formal grade. Letter Grades (Upon Request or in a Structured Grading System) – For students who need a formal evaluation, letter grades can be provided based on quiz scores, the midterm, and the final exam. This approach ensures that each student receives the type of assessment that best supports their learning and exam preparation while keeping the focus on progress and understanding rather than just scores.Class Experience

Class Experience This AP U.S. History prep course is a fast-paced, engaging, and structured review designed to strengthen historical knowledge, build critical thinking skills, and prepare students for the AP exam—without feeling like just another textbook reading. Covering all nine APUSH periods, this course includes interactive discussions, activities, and regular assessments to make history both fun and memorable. What Will Be Taught? Students will review major historical events, themes, and skills from 1491 to the present, focusing on cause and effect, continuity and change, and comparative analysis—all essential for success on the AP exam. We’ll explore the fascinating stories behind major events, the surprising connections between different eras, and how the past still shapes today’s world. How Is the Class Structured? Lecture-based format with clear explanations, engaging storytelling, and humor to keep things lively. Each session focuses on a specific time period, highlighting key events and trends. Quizzes after every unit, a midterm, and a final exam assess comprehension and help tailor instruction. Open discussions for students to debate historical ideas and share their thoughts in a relaxed setting. Interactive activities at the end of many lessons bring history to life in creative and unexpected ways. Optional readings for students doing this as a review; required readings for students taking this as a full class. How Will I Teach? My teaching style is energetic, engaging, and designed to make history fun. Instead of dry memorization, students will get: ✅ Lively lectures with clear explanations, historical storytelling, and humor. ✅ Visually engaging slides that highlight key points without information overload. ✅ Quizzes, a midterm, and a final exam to track progress and adjust lessons as needed. ✅ Interactive discussions and activities that encourage critical thinking and participation. ✅ Optional or required readings, depending on the student’s learning goals. Students have the flexibility to shape their learning experience in terms of participation, but quizzes and tests are mandatory to assess understanding and allow me to adjust lessons accordingly. However, exceptions can be made for students who need accommodations. Readings are required for all students as they provide essential context for discussions, activities, and assessments. Discussions and activities add an extra layer of engagement, but participation remains low-pressure and flexible—students can contribute by speaking, typing, or reflecting independently. This structure ensures that students get the necessary content while allowing them to engage in a way that best supports their learning. This class is not just about memorizing names and dates—it’s about exploring history in a way that makes it exciting, understandable, and even a little bit entertaining. With a balance of structured lectures, assessments, and interactive elements, this class will prepare students for the AP exam while making history something they’ll actually enjoy!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I’m a history teacher and adjunct professor who loves making the past come alive! With a Master of Science in History and Archival Science and a Bachelor of Arts in History, I’ve spent years teaching students how to think like historians, break down big events, and connect the dots across time—all while keeping history engaging and (dare I say) fun!
I currently teach high school AP U.S. History and work as an adjunct professor at the college level, so I know what it takes to succeed in both high school and higher education. My teaching approach focuses on clear, engaging explanations, ensuring students feel confident tackling AP-style questions and historical analysis.
I also have experience working at a school for students with ADHD, ADD, autism, ODD, and other learning differences, which has shaped the way I build structured, flexible, and supportive learning environments. I believe every student learns differently, and I’m committed to making history accessible to all.
Additionally, I have extensive experience teaching international students who do not speak English as their first language. Because of this, I ensure that all course materials use clear, precise language without unnecessary complexity, making historical analysis more approachable while still maintaining the rigor of an AP-level course.
Beyond teaching, I’ve worked as a curriculum writer and editor, designing history courses and instructional materials that align with AP standards. That means I not only teach history—I help shape how it’s taught!
Most importantly, I love helping students develop confidence in their historical thinking skills and realizing history is way more than just dates and names—it’s about stories, connections, and understanding how the past shapes our world today.
