This is the first major unit in AP Physics 1. We will be covering the major topics of position, velocity, acceleration, and motion for both one-dimensional motion and two-dimensional motion. We also will be discussing vectors in the context of two-dimensional motion. The course is emphasized learning through some instruction, and doing lots of practice problems. Practice is the best way to get familiar with how to solve problems. Numerous examples will be shown during the live lessons, with additional practice for students to do on their own. Prerequisites: Students should have taken algebra and be able to use trigonometry as it relates to right triangles (soh cah toa). Syllabus. Here are how the 4 weeks are broken down. Week 1: Explanation of major terms of motion including position, velocity, acceleration, speed, and distance. We will look at the basic equations and how to apply them. Week 2: An introduction to the kinematic equations and how to apply them to different types of 1-D problems with constant acceleration. We will be going over techniques to figure out which kinematic equation to use. Week 3: We will then look at interpreting graphs of motion and how to sketch position, velocity, and acceleration graphs given a graph. We will also begin to look at 2-D vectors. Week 4: We will fully apply 2-D vectors to 2-D motion problems, and applying the kinematic equations. We will focus on projectile motion problem examples. Learning Goals
Students will have a full understanding of the Kinematics unit in AP Physics 1. They will learn the following skills:
* Applying the kinematic equations
* Understand the relationships between position, velocity, and acceleration graphs
* Solve projectile motion problems

Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm Allen Tsao, and I love helping students learn math and physics. Being good at math and physics is all about practice. Sure, some people don't have to practice as much, but anyone can do really well with the right coaching and practice. You can learn all about the notes on a piano and memorize the keys, but you still have to practice the piano to get good at it.
I've been a private tutor for several years, and I've tutored over 2000 hours in subjects like AP Physics 1, Calculus 1-3, Linear Algebra, and Electrical Engineering. I've helped numerous students do well on their AP Physics 1, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics exams. I've also tutored students at Stanford University, Harvard University, Penn State, University of California Berkeley, and dozens more.
I received my BS in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley, and my MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. I worked for 11 years as an engineer before throwing myself full-time into what I love the most: helping students learn and succeed in difficult classes.
