Animal Experiments- Explore Animal Adaptations with Fun Facts and Experiments!
As a zoo employee, I have fun facts to share about animals around the world. In this course, we will learn about a different animal or area each week and use experiments to better understand adaptations and how they support the animal.
Class experience
US Grade 1 - 4
What will be taught? Animal adaptions! We will look at real photos, conduct experiments, and discuss how animals adapt and protect themselves. Each week will have a different focus. Feel free to join in at any time! How will you teach? The class is facilitated by the teacher, but will include lots of student ideas and discussion. Some experiments will have recommended supplies, others will be to watch the teacher conduct. I want students to notice things about animals and realize how we...
This class is taught in English.
Students will work on inquiry through notice and wonder questioning skills. Students will also work on speaking and listening during discussion. Students will work on science standards for adaptations and animal needs (varies by grade and state).
I work as a part time employee at an AZA accredited zoo and have for nearly 5 years.
Supplies are not required, but they do allow your student to follow along with some of the activities and experiments. Week 1: tongs, spoon, scissors, disposable straw, paper and pencil Week 2: bowl of water, toilet paper tube, coffee grounds or pepper Week 3: bowl of ice water, small bag of crisco taped shut (to mimic blubber, this is optional) Week 4: small piece of slime (optional), toilet paper/paper towel tube, scissors, string, tape
