Note: I have recently accepted a full-time position and now teach very few classes on Outschool. At this time, I am unable to accommodate class requests. Thank you! This club is especially for kids who have ADHD. Sometimes students with ADHD can feel as if no one understands them. This group will be a safe place for students to chat about the ups and downs of life with ADHD or whatever is on their minds. I will facilitate the discussion to keep it appropriate, interesting, and positive. We will begin each meeting with a "Hi/Low" share- students have an opportunity to share the best and worst part of their week with the group. We then move on to something to make us all laugh to get the happy chemicals in our brains flowing. Next we do a bit of learning related to ADHD. This can look like tips and/or tricks to manage ADHD, learning about famous people who have ADHD, a discussion about ADHD, or information about the latest ADHD research. It is important to have fun together, as well! With remaining time, I will facilitate further interaction with games like Charades, Would You Rather?, 20 Questions, Family Feud, Pictionary, Scattergories, Trivia, or other games I think the students might enjoy. It is helpful, but not required, if the students have taken my "ADHD Superpowers: The Hidden Advantages of ADHD" class as a prerequisite.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Iowa Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Master's Degree in Education from Morningside College
I have been teaching for more than 15 years, and I have a Master's degree in education. Coursework in understanding and teaching exceptional students, including students with ADHD, was required to complete this degree.
I have also had many students with ADHD in my classes. In my years teaching 4th and 5th grade, I became known for my approach and success with students who struggled with their ADHD. Whether it was my high-energy teaching style or just the soft spot I have for these students, they have seemed to excel in my class.
Recently I have become more interested in this topic. After some research, I gave a presentation on this subject matter to the staff in my home school assistance program. It was my goal to inform and also to encourage teachers to look at students with ADHD through the positive lens that they deserve to be seen in.
Shortly after this, I created and offered a class on Outschool called "ADHD Superpowers: The Hidden Advantages of ADHD" so that students could learn about all the good that can come of their ADHD. Many students have taken this class since its creation, and it continues to be my most popular class. Its unanticipated success opened my eyes to the need for these students to have a space where they can be their most authentic selves and connect with other like-minded students, and thus this club was born!
