This introduction to adding and subtracting lets children build tangible knowledge by adding stacks of Mega Blocks to make a tower.
Class experience
We will build stacks with Mega Blocks, and practice adding by either adding blocks to the stack or taking them away. We will count the stack to help understand adding and subtracting in a tangible way. Students will be introduced to + - and = signs, as well as how to add numbers up to 10. More advanced groups will add up to 20.
I am a registered Early Childhood Educator in Ontario (a preschool teacher). It is so powerful to build a tangible base in topics like math with young children. Just like reading at an early age can greatly impact a child's ability to read when they get older, learning the concepts behind math can build a base that children can use when they get older.
20 Mega Blocks (or something similar, Lego is fine as well).
Very young students may need an adult to help them.
