Everyone should be confident speaking to a small group of friends or to a large audience of strangers. For many years I was apprehensive about speaking in public. Looking back at it, the reason I lacked confidence was because of how I learned to give a speech. Like many of you, it was in a speech class in front of 15-20 people with a teacher that "graded" me on many criteria. It was not fun!! I think learning should be fun. Therefore, learning how to give a speech should be fun too. That's what's going to happen in this course; we're going to have fun learning to give speeches. I went from being nervous in front of a crowd to the point that now you can't keep the mic out of my hand. I'm actually more nervous WRITING this course description than I will be when I make the course description video. (I hope you watched it) Students will have fun learning to give speeches. Here's how it's going to happen: On Day 1 I will review the importance of public speaking, introduce the 3 point method of speaking, and review the 3 points of speaking. (Notice I just listed 3 points....that will be a recurring them during the course) These 3 points are Introduction, Three Important Points, and Summarizing the 3 Points in the Close. During day 1 each Learner will use the 3 points multiple times in fun, short and fast paced group and individual exercises. There will be 2 assignments given in preparation for Day 2. One assignment will be to teach 3 adults the 3 components of the 3 part speech. The other assignment will be to prepare a 3 point speech for the next class meeting. The speech should on any subject the Learner is passionate about and be less than 90 seconds. FUN topics will be encouraged. On Day 2 I will lead a discussion about how it felt to teach their parents how to give a speech. I will ask them to teach the 3 point method to me. And finally, learners will have an opportunity to give their short, fun speeches.
Learning Goals
After participating in this course Learners will be well on their way to being confident when speaking in front of small groups or large audiences. They will understand the importance of the 3 part speech

Teacher expertise and credentials
Learning should be FUN. When it's FUN-It's MEMORABLE
I have 35 years of hotel industry experience. During that 35 years I held many different positions including: General Manager, Corporate Trainer, and at one point was part of an ownership group.
While working in the hotel business I also coached basketball at 6 high schools.
You'll find me teaching classes about business. I especially like to teach classes that demonstrate to students how what they're learning now is applied in the real world.
I play racquetball at least 4 days per week. I also run the largest youth racquetball program in the Mid-Atlantic region.
