Basketball Talk! - Weekly NBA Discussions and Predictions (ALL AGES)

This course is designed to discuss the intricacies of the NBA season. Students will learn to develop social skills and communication skills, while sharing their opinions. We will practice writing, reading, and speaking all basketball.

30 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. Participate with weekly activities, actively communicate/share your ideas, and comment on others. There will be small quizzes throughout the course on some of the stats we analyze and based on the current teams winning etc.

Class Experience

Through the course of the NBA season students will discuss player performances from #1 Draft pick Lamelo Ball to the Veteran James. 
This class will take students to the launch of the 2020/2021 NBA season! The aim of this course is to create a unique atmosphere and social learning space where all learners can discuss/share various topics. Each week students will be able to interact with one another, improve their writing skills, improve their reading skills, and build a sense of community. Students may express their opinions in class and are expected to respectfully listen when another student is talking.

Students will discuss current/previous NBA news, breakdown film, analyze box scores, compare/evaluate and contrast players/teams. There will be built in google slides and engaging Nearpod activities to keep it fun and exciting! 
Each week all learners can expect to engage in film sessions, question of the week, quizzes, polls, multiple choice, fun games etc. Links will be provided during class and learners will not need to register an account on any websites. The video content provided may contain NBA hot topics such as: Rival games of the week, recent trades or injuries, best performances of the week etc. 

We will build a community of collaborators where learners build off of one another. We can have friendly debates and learn to express and deliver our opinions. Students will need to have evidence such as stats to back up their point of views.

Here are some examples of topics/questions we will explore:
Which teams will win the game this week?
Which player had the best performance of the week?
What teams are going to make the playoffs or not?
Which NBA rookie is surprising and which is a bust?
Is Lamelo Ball going to win Rookie of the Year?
Who is your MVP this season?
Which player will score the most points this week?
Who is your Eastern Conference and Western Conference Player of the Month?

There will be a great amount of time for students to interact with one another and share/express their opinions. This course will be great for aspired athletes who love to continue to learn about the game of basketball. This course will continue to build athletes basketball knowledge each week and begin to understand the game at a high level in a fun way!

Along with the Outschool classroom, this class uses Nearpod, Canva, Google Slides, Google Jamboard and PowerPoint. These will all be provided for the students.

I have represented Team Canada by playing for the National team and got the opportunity to play vs Team USA who had NBA Stars such as John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, Harrison Barnes etc. I am a High school National Champion, attended the #1 basketball Prep school in America called "Brewster Academy" in New Hampshire. 

I love seeing children faces and expression when they learn something new. I believe health and fitness is a very important aspect of our lives. It is also critical to teach young learners the significance of learning life skills! My life skill classes will give you the tools you can apply in life such as discipline, dedication, and consistency.
