4th Grade 9-Week Course w/ Lab Experiments | (Part 4 of 4) Semester Course | w/ Report Card
What's included
9 live meetings
6 hrs 45 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. The students will have homework after each class. They will be asked recall and open-ended questions where they will have to apply what they learned to correctly answer the question. I ask that the students review what was what they learned every day. Optional: I ask that the students dedicate 10-15 minutes of study time each day.Assessment
The students will be assessed as they engage in discussions and as they interact in a question-answer session at the end of class. The students will periodically be given quizzes and/or formative assessments. This will guide my instruction. I will review what the students need.Class Experience
US Grade 4
[4th of four 9-week sessions] This course takes a modified, thematic approach to 4th Grade Science. It offers content that is typically taught during the third 9-weeks in a traditional 4th grade science class. The students will learn about the effect of water on land. The students will take an in-depth look at science from an Engineering perspective. The following topics will be discussed: Week 1 - Rock formation Week 2 - Local, regional, and global patterns of rock formations Week 3 - Changes to rock formation over time - Earthquake impact Week 4 - Fossils & Rock Layers Week 5 - Rainfall affect on living things Week 6 - Rock Erosion Week 7 - Soil Erosion Week 8 & 9 - Living organism affect on land Local, regional, and global patterns of rock formations reveal changes over time due to earth forces, such as earthquakes. The presence and location of certain fossil types indicate the order in which rock layers were formed. Rainfall helps to shape the land and affects the types of living things found in a region. Water, ice, wind, living organisms, and gravity break rocks, soils, and sediments into smaller particles and move them around. Living things affect the physical characteristics of their regions. The students will learn about the effect of water on land. Different modes of instruction will be used. The students will be taught using pictures, video clips, slides, discussions, lecture, independent reading, and open-ended questions. The students require the 3rd grade science course. The fourth 9-weeks course will pick up where this course leaves off.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the world around them. Engaged students will improve their ability to respond to state assessment questions on 4th grade science content.
