In this class, we will read 3rd-grade level reading passages, and use the Common Core Standards. We will work to improve reading skills, understanding various types of informational or literary text. My name is Melanie Hughes, and I am an elementary teacher. For the last 30 years, I have taught in public schools teaching K - 5th grades. I have a teacher certification in Early Childhood - 6th grade, a Special Education certification K -12th, and an ESL certification for K-12th grades. As a classroom teacher, I saw the need for small group teaching. In smaller groups, students better understand the objectives through interactions with the teacher and other students. I want to improve each student's reading skills and comprehension of what they read. I love reading, and I want to bring that joy of reading to all my students.
