Class Experience

These individual tutoring sessions will focus on the individual needs of your learner. The learner will be guided and directed to apply skills needed to be a successful reader and/or guided to apply skills needed to be successful with elementary Math concepts.

We will focus on these skills during the tutoring session(s):

phonics - matching the sounds of spoken English with individual letters or groups of letters.
decoding - ability to apply knowledge of letter-sound relationships, including knowledge of letter patterns, to correctly pronounce written words.
orthographic mapping - the process of forming letter-sound connections to combine and recall the spelling, pronunciation, and the meaning of words. It involves the critical process by which children can learn to read words at a glance, spell a word aloud (and from memory), and develop vocabulary words.
reading fluency - ability to read with speed, accuracy, and proper expression.
Math - number recognition, counting, patterns, sequencing, shapes, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.

The students will be actively engaged with screen-sharing activities.

Week 1: Correct Phonetic Sounds

Week 2: Building, writing, reading, and counting sounds in words - short /a/ words

Week 3: Building, writing, reading, and counting sounds in words - short /i/ words

Week 4: Building, writing, reading, and counting sounds in words - short /o/ words

Week 5: Building, writing, reading, and counting sounds in words - short /e/ words

Week 6: Building, writing, reading, and counting sounds in words - short /u/ words

Hello and welcome! I am Julie. I have 15 years of teaching experience. I taught in the elementary classroom for 8 years: 2 years in 5th grade and 6 years in Kindergarten (K-5). While living in Okinawa, Japan I taught ESL classes to children ages 5-12 years. I have taught ESL online for 5 years. I have mentored and privately tutored many elementary students throughout the years. I have lived and traveled all over the world and I have interacted with students from all different countries and cultures. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and an Elementary Education K-6 (all subject areas) certification. I am TEFL and TESOL certified. 

I create a warm, engaging, organized and well-structured classroom where all learners are encouraged and involved.

I enjoy traveling and taking walks on the beach. I love all things health and fitness! I teach educational fitness classes, art classes, phonics classes and reading classes for young learners. I believe it is important to keep both our mind and body active. Reading is to the brain as exercise is to the body!
