ESL Friendly. Classes are delivered by a Medical Doctor, Experienced Teacher and ESL Expert. Week of 6/11/23 - Glycolis and the citric acid cycle connect to many other metabolic pathways Week of 13/11/23 - Photosynthesis converts light energy to the chemical energy of food Week of 20/11/23 - The light reactions convert solar energy to the chemical energy of ATP and NADPH Week of 27/11/23 - The Calvin cycle uses the chemical energy of ATP and NADPH to reduce CO2 to sugar Week of 4/12/23 - Alternative mechanisms of carbon fixation have evolved in hot, arid climates Week of 11/12/23 - Life depends on photosynthesis Week of 18/12/23 - Most cell division results in genetically identical daughter cells Week of 25/12/23 - The mitotic phase alternates with interphase in the cell cycle Week of 1/1/24 - The eukaryotic cell cycle is regulated by a molecular control system Week of 8/1/24 - Offspring acquire genes from parents by inheriting chromosomes Week of 15/1/24 - Fertilization and meiosis alternate in sexual life cycles Week of 22/1/24 - Meiosis reduces the number of chromosome sets from diploid to haploid Week of 29/1/24 - Genetic variation produced in sexual life cycles contributes to the evolution Week of 5/2/24 - Mendel used the scientific approach to identify two laws of inheritance Week of 12/2/24 - Probability laws govern Mendelian inheritance Week of 19/2/24 - Inheritance patterns are often more complex than predicted by simple Mendelian genetics Week of 26/2/24 - Many human traits follow Mendelian patterns of inheritance This class meets for 35 minutes. Learners will be encouraged to speak to the teacher. Learners will at times repeat the teacher and at other times be encouraged to answer for themselves. There will be a balance between developing fluency as well as focusing on accuracy. How is your class structured? 1. Each class will start with a fun warmer to enable the student to feel relaxed and for the teacher to understand the learner's level. 2. Teacher will provide input and model what is being taught. 3. Learners will practise through various activities. 4. Learners will recap what is learnt through various activities to allow learners to complete it at their level. How will you teach? Our teaching style is dynamic and engaging. The class will be interactive and supportive of all needs. Students will get the opportunity to participate and complete their own tasks. The class will include a range of teaching methods including questions and answers; individual, paired and group activities; games and quizzes. Learners are encouraged to draw something related to the topic to share at the end of each class. What's your teaching style? We are a team of experienced teachers who are calm, patient and supportive whilst ensuring that the children are constantly learning. The environment will be dynamic and learners will actively participate throughout the class. As experienced teachers, we are capable of adapting our style to suit the learners. How much will learners get to interact with the teacher and each other? Students will be active participants throughout each class. Student talk time is expected to be significantly higher than teacher talk time. What prior learning is required? Please note, this is a highly academic course with the aim of preparing learners for the Biology Olympiad. This is our course for learners aged 14-18 years and will not include work on vocabulary and the linguistic skills needed to access the course. Please don't hesitate to contact us for further information. We look forward to being part of your learning journey!
