1 hour per week. Homework is optional and students will probably want to practice their Spanish words. Students can read over the Abc pages Profesora D uploads into the Abcs in Spanish 1 Classroom provided by Outschool. OR watching the videos of the classes, students can (1) purchase the ebook from iTunes: ABC's 140 Sight Words and Pictures for Beginning Readers By Diana Di Tolla ($1.99) to practice the vocabulary (reading and speaking) and (2) practice speaking/saying the words we learned. Study time: about 10-15 minutes each time a student reads the book. The goal is that the student can read the books without listening to the Spanish - but the Spanish is there as a back-up. There are also include more ebooks on iTunes (99 cents each): The Letter A, The Letter B, The Letter C, The Letter D by Diana Di Tolla.Assessment
Learner progress is also formative (immediate feedback through speaking examples or teacher repeating or emphasizing a students' answer.) Profesora D will have visual aids of vocabulary for each lesson.Class Experience
Novice level class (no Spanish needed) This fun and engaging class will teach useful vocabulary to get your child conversing in Spanish that follows the ABCs, using simple questions to promote conversation and understanding. Learning is focused on speaking accompanied with visual cues, imagery, and repetition. This is a 10-week class and follows the ebook (ABC’s 140 Sight Words in English / Spanish by Diana Di Tolla, 25 pages of pictures/text/audio. Purchase the ebook on iTunes.) We start at the letter A, spend the week learning vocabulary for the letters A & B, and each week add to our collection with a new letter all the way until the letter G. Using words in English and Spanish for each letter, we cover most of the alphabet in this novice class. Abcs in Spanish! 2 covers Letters H-P, and Abcs in Spanish! 3 covers Letters Q-Z. Review of previous vocabulary is included as well as a final project and presentations in the final week of class. Abcs in Spanish! 4 (verbs) includes many ways to talk about yourself and your likes/dislikes. Each class will introduce vocabulary from the ebook and we will practice: pronouncing (how to produce the sounds) and create a sentence in context. Also, at the beginning of class we will be to review previously learned vocabulary, sing songs associated with the letters, then on to new vocabulary. Conversation is guided by the teacher and students will be prompted to volunteer for practice using simple commands and props. Students will speak throughout the class, gaining confidence as they practice. My students find they understand more than they can explain because of the visual cues and repetition that I use as the instructor. Students learn from each other, retaining the vocabulary, which enables them to create simple sentences. Es azul. Es estrella. Es una estrella azul. Getting students to use Spanish and be independent is what I do best. Class size maximum is 5 students per class to ensure lots of personal attention. Let's have fun while we learn this new and amazing language!
Learning Goals
Students will learn and recall vocabulary for foods, the home, items around the house, animals, toys, and the natural world.

Students will apply understanding of vocabulary to answer simple questions in class and ask them to fellow students.
Students will learn to speak another language in a more holistic and natural process.
Students will have fun and be challenged beyond what they think they can do.

Teacher expertise and credentials
<I am taking a hiatus until January 2025> ~ Profesora D
Hola - I am a National Board Certified Teacher of Spanish language and culture, from the novice levels to advanced of Spanish language learners, including heritage speakers in Washington state. I am a public school teacher for 20+ years, have tried and true methods for language learning, and love to share my passion for this beautiful language with young people. As well as my National Board Certification (until 2031), I have a Master's in Teaching, a Bachelor's of Arts in Spanish, a Bachelor's of Science in Botany, College Board certified to teach AP Spanish Language & Culture, and TEFL certified (Teaching English As A Foreign Language.)
I have loved Spanish since I first heard it at 5 years old and have spent my life immersed in this amazing culture and language. I value hard work more than perfect pronunciation as that will help my students more in life and I know from first hand experience that everyone can learn. My classes are fun, interactive, conversational, and academic (although I slip this in and students are having so much fun that they forget they are in class). I have also created a few classes in Udemy.com that focus on Spanish grammar. In addition, I spend my time with my family and friends, cooking, going on walks, camping, biking, reading, and, of course, watching movies. I can't wait to meet you in our virtual classroom!
