Beginner Level
Bring forward performance skills from prior classes: great posture, holding the instrument, how to approach and make sounds, and a novice knowledge of chords, melodies, and accompaniments. This class is designed to get you music and songs to play. Walk away with as many tunes as you like! Song samples will be provided that are originally composed by the teacher. Learners are welcome to bring song choices they would like to learn as well. The instructional approach to this class will be some self learning and discovery, mirroring the teacher demonstrating the skills, and conversation around production, correction, and building self-awareness of spatial operation to successfully play the guitar. Learners will build performance ready habits from mindset, to breaks, maintaining focus, choosing samples to work on with deliberate practice, and be able to make independent decisions to reach their goals. Essential questions: 1. How do performers select repertoire? 2. How do musicians improve the quality of their performance? 3. How do musicians make meaningful connections to creating, performing, and responding?
Learning Goals
With guidance, demonstrate a final version of personal musical ideas to peers.
When analyzing selected music, read and perform rhythmic and melodic patterns using iconic or standard notation.
