Multiply and Divide Whole Numbers
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Producing the Largest Product
In this lesson we will compare and contrast products made with the same set of digits to understand how to make the largest products preparing for pre-algebra and algebra 1 ideas while practicing efficient multiplication strategies.
Lesson 2
More Multiplication
In this lesson, we will practice a variety of strategies to find efficient ways to multiply large whole numbers by observing patterns.
 Week 2
Lesson 3
Factoring in Factors
In this lesson, we will consider factors in multiplication problems as a way to help us choose efficient strategies and expand our mental math skills.
Lesson 4
Diving into Division
We will practice long division and use logical estimates to identify mistakes in the our work and example work. We will practice writing division expressions for real world situations
 Week 3
Lesson 5
More Division
We'll practice a variety of division strategies to help find efficient ways to solve large division problems including using mental math.
Unit 2Volume
4 lessons3 Weeks
Volume
 Week 3
Lesson 6
Revisit Volume
We will solve real world problems involving volume and multi-step problem solving.
 Week 4
Lesson 7
Estimating Volume of the World's Largest Wagon
We will solve problems about volume and make an estimate of the volume of the world's largest wagon using repeated logical reasoning. This prepares students for work in modeling in pre-algebra and algebra one.
Lesson 8
Filling Up The World's Largest Wagon
We will solve multistep problems filling the wagon with sand, boxes, and other things and practice real world mathematical modeling skills.
 Week 5
Lesson 9
Problem Solving With Volume: Water
We will apply our understanding of volume to water and a real world scenario involving rain-water catchment systems. We will also practice unit conversions.
Unit 3Fractions

Create Your Own Problems
 Week 7
Lesson 14
Notice and Wonder
Students will create their own notice and wonder problems to share their own math understandings and inspire deeper thinking as well as build confidence with this activity.
 Week 8
Lesson 15
Estimation Exploration + Number Talk
Students will create their own number talk and estimation explroation problems to share their own math understandings and inspire deeper thinking as well as build confidence with this activity.
Lesson 16
True and False + Which One Doesn't Belong
Students will create their own sets of true and false problems and which one doesn't belong problems to share their own math understandings and inspire deeper thinking as well as build confidence with this activity.
Students consolidate and solidify their understanding of various concepts and skills related to major work of fifth grade. They also continue to work toward fluency goals of the fifth grade.
Divide multi-digit whole numbers using place value strategies and the properties of operations.
Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
Solve multi-step problems involving volume.
Review the major work of the grade by creating and designing instructional routines.
Prepare for an accelerated middle grade math curriculum.
I have been completed three college-level courses on common-core math instruction. I have worked as a math instructor for middle school students in a private school setting. I have ten years of experience as a math tutor including working with students from ages 5 (kindergarten) to 25 (Graduate Readiness Exam). I have served as a teaching assistant in college-level math courses.
