Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
Do you want to be an actor? Learn how to act better? Find the best acting style for you?

Each week we will explore the ideas and techniques of a different very famous theater practitioner. From the first warm-ups to all the games and learning activities that follow, you will get to fully immerse yourself in the teachings of each practitioner for the whole class.

Whether you are an experienced actor or just starting out, the classes are structured in a way that every learner will be able to take something from each class and develop their skills and confidence week after week.

As you take part in more and more classes you will also be able to grow in confidence, develop as a performer, and start to learn which particular techniques work best for you.

Many of these topics are often taught at a higher level in colleges, universities, and at stage schools so this class can be a very good grounding for learners who wish to progress in acting or develop their skill base.

The topics we will explore will be:
Week 1- Learning about and exploring the techniques of Konstantin Stanislavski (Emotional memory, Magic if, Given Circumstances, Circles of attention, Objective/Super Objective),
Week 2- Learning about and exploring the techniques of Bertolt Brecht (Direct address, Placards, Breaking the 4th wall, Verfremdungseffekt- alienation, Gestus),
Week 3- Learning about and exploring the techniques of Steven Berkoff (Physical theatre, Working to a rhythm, Jo ha ku, Total theatre),
Week 4- Learning about and exploring the techniques of Jacques Lecoq (The 6 sounds, The colors of the rainbow and paintings, Use of breathing, 7 levels of tension),
Week 5- Learning about and exploring the techniques of Frantic Assembly (Building blocks, Happy accidents, Not end gaming, Put a question in the room),
Week 6- Learning about and exploring the techniques of Augusto Boal (Cross and Circle, Forum theatre, Image theatre),

As a teacher who has taught, an actress who has acted, and a director who has directed in these styles, as well as carefully chosen practical tasks, there will be lots of opportunities for learners to develop their understanding further through asking questions both in the live class and afterward via the classroom.

Every learner who completes the whole 6 week course will receive a certificate of completion, listing all the practitioners covered which they can use as a reference in future applications for further studies both in person and online.

**If you are unable to find a suitable time in my class availability do please reach out, as I can often juggle my filming schedule day to day and week to week**

'Mrs. T worked magic with our budding thespian, to prepare for a specific audition. We saw a growth in confidence, an increased dedication and commitment to preparing and rehearsing in the following days, and a greater appreciation for the monologue aspect of the audition (previously she had taken more voice/singing classes). Our daughter used her newly learned relaxation techniques while waiting to be called, and came out of her audition feeling confident! Well worth the money, for both specific skills gained, as well as the intangible personal growth. Thank you, Mrs. T!'

'My daughter took your class back in February. You helped her with a monologue for an audition for a performing arts school. She was accepted to the school based on her audition. I just wanted to let you know and thank you for your help! :)'

Non-US Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Southampton
I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching Drama (and some Music, PSHCE, and English) to 11 to 15 years olds and Performing Arts to 16 to 18 year olds in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time, including running small group and 1:1 confidence building  workshops. I also have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like create a play in a week) and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16.

As a professional actress, I've performed to children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties,  nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way.

I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, some TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos and have a regular podcast.

I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself.
