👋Hello and Welcome!😊✨ Pre-Requisites: 🧠 Students must know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive numbers fluently (a calculator may be used if it is a regular part of your learner’s math journey) 🧠 Students must know how to perform math operations with decimals and fractions (NOTE: We primarily use integers in this class) as well as round decimals 🧠 Students must have introductory knowledge about data analysis, line graphs, and proportionality 👋I am very excited to roll out...
20 lessons//10 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Order of OperationsWe will review and practice the order of operations using PEMDASLesson 2Integer OperationsWe will learn and practice how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive and negative numbersWeek 2Lesson 3Integer OperationsWe will learn and practice how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive and negative numbersLesson 4Distributive PropertyWalk through the process of distributing integers and variables to other integers and variables (polynomials)Week 3Lesson 5Distributive PropertyWalk through the process of distributing integers and variables to other integers and variables (polynomials)Lesson 6Combining Like TermsBuilding upon the previous weeks' skills, students will identify and group like terms. We will cover what makes a term unique and use concrete examples to build conceptual understanding.Week 4Lesson 7Combining Like TermsBuilding upon the previous weeks' skills, students will identify and group like terms. We will cover what makes a term unique and use concrete examples to build conceptual understanding.Lesson 8Solving One-Step EquationsLearn the mechanics of solving a one-step equation. We go back to the basics to give students conceptual understanding of the strategies used to solve equationsWeek 5Lesson 9Solving One-Step EquationsLearn the mechanics of solving a one-step equation. We go back to the basics to give students conceptual understanding of the strategies used to solve equationsLesson 10Solving One-Step Equations (Word Problems)Students will be able to read word problems and construct an equation from the given information.Week 6Lesson 11Solving One-Step Equations (Word Problems)Students will be able to read word problems and construct an equation from the given information.Lesson 12Solving Two-Step EquationsWe kick it up a notch this week to tackle two-step equations. Students will learn the optimal way to solve these types of problems.Week 7Lesson 13Solving Two-Step EquationsWe kick it up a notch this week to tackle two-step equations. Students will learn the optimal way to solve these types of problems.Lesson 14Solving Two-Step Equations (Word Problems)Students will master the art of creating algebraic expressions from word problems. They will create their own word problem that requires a two-step solution.Week 8Lesson 15Solving Two-Step Equations (Word Problems)Students will master the art of creating algebraic expressions from word problems. They will create their own word problem that requires a two-step solution.Lesson 16Solving Through SubstitutionVarious examples will be given to students to demonstrate how to plug variables into expressions.Week 9Lesson 17Solving Through SubstitutionVarious examples will be given to students to demonstrate how to plug variables into expressions.Lesson 18Pythagorean TheoremThis first section of Pythagorean Theorem will cover the reasoning behind why the formula works, the formula itself, and basic use of solving through substitution with the formula.Week 10Lesson 19Pythagorean TheoremWe will conclude our semester course through challenging Pythagorean Theorem problems that incorporate all of the previous weeks' content. Students' hard work will pay off as they use their refined math skills to solve these problems.Lesson 20Review Game DayThis day is always a fun one where students review & demonstrate their knowledge through a Jeopardy-style game.
Homework Offered
There will be 2 homework assignments per week, typically 5-10 questions each. These are designed to be completed on days that we do not meet live to reinforce the material. The assignments are given via Google Forms and are graded automatically upon submission. I also provide VIDEO answer keys where I not only share the answers, but I walk learners through solving each homework problem. This takes the burden off caregivers if their learner is not understanding the material as the learners can reference the video answer key! Of course I am always available for additional assistance with homework- just reach out :)0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

-Math journal/spiral -Printable Guided Notes and Worksheets (will be sent 24hrs before course begins) -Colored pencils, highlighters, pencils for note-taking -Calculator (Optional. Since we are focusing on the foundational elements in this course, calculator use will be at a minimum and it does not need to be a graphing calculator)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The courses I offer center around core math topics in pre-algebra and algebra. I like to focus on the important building blocks students need to master in middle school and early high school in order to succeed in high school and beyond. Some of...
