This class builds confidence for students and sparks an excitement in math and helps struggling students who can use extra practice.  This class will teach students quick mental math methods to solve  problems and we go "beyond" the standard Multiplication Table, division, fractions and other math concepts, by practicing with word problems to apply their knowledge. Students will learn to generate answers to problems mentally! The thrill of this class is that each day, students will have practice worksheets, and they can teach their younger siblings, family and friends. This class builds confidence for students and sparks an excitement in math!  This 3rd grade math class is designed for students to join at any point during the semester! Each lesson is self-contained, so there’s no need to worry about missing prior sessions. 

What to Expect 
In this full curriculum course, students from all backgrounds will take a deep dive into 3rd grade math. Each live session fosters a virtual community where learners connect, grow, and learn. This class follows an "I do, We do, You do" structure that provides opportunity for group discussions, student practice, and exciting math games. This class is led by a state-certified licensed teacher with a proven track record of success.

In addition to our live meetings, your child will have access to resources every week related to the current skill. Students are welcome to simply show up to class with blank paper and pencil!

UNITS & TOPICS

I.  WEEK  1 to 4  Unit 1: Place Value and Number Sense 

	•	Key Concepts:
	•	Understand numbers up to 1,000s (or higher depending on standards).
	•	Place value (ones, tens, hundreds, thousands).
	•	Comparing and ordering numbers using <, >, and =.
	•	Rounding numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.
	•	Sample Activities:
	•	Practice reading and writing numbers in standard, expanded, and word form.
	•	Use place value charts to understand regrouping.
	•	Number-line exercises to compare and round numbers.

II. WEEK 5 to 8  UNIT 2
Addition and Subtraction 
	•	Key Concepts:
	•	Add and subtract within 1,000.
	•	Solve problems with regrouping.
	•	Multi-step word problems involving addition and subtraction.
	•	Sample Activities:
	•	Solve “real-world” problems (e.g., budgeting money).
	•	Create number sentences from word problems.
	•	Use base-ten blocks or visual aids to demonstrate regrouping.

III. WEEK 9 to 12 UNIT 3
Introduction to Multiplication and Division 

	•	Key Concepts:
	•	Understand multiplication as repeated addition and division as repeated subtraction.
	•	Basic multiplication and division facts (focus on fluency for 0–12 times tables).
	•	Understand the relationship between multiplication and division.
	•	Sample Activities:
	•	Create arrays to visualize multiplication (e.g., 3 rows of 4 = 12).
	•	Use number lines for skip counting and division.
	•	Solve word problems involving equal groups, arrays, or sharing.

IV. WEEK 13 -16 UNIT 4
Fractions 

	•	Key Concepts:
	•	Understand fractions as parts of a whole or a set.
	•	Represent fractions on a number line.
	•	Recognize equivalent fractions (e.g., 1/2 = 2/4).
	•	Compare fractions with the same denominator.
	•	Sample Activities:
	•	Divide shapes into equal parts and label fractions.
	•	Use fraction strips to explore equivalence.
	•	Play fraction comparison games.

V. WEEK 17 to 20 UNIT 5
 Measurement & Geometry

	•	Key Concepts:
	•	Measure length (inches, centimeters), weight (grams, kilograms), and volume (liters, milliliters).
	•	Tell and write time to the nearest minute.
	•	Interpret and create bar graphs, pictographs, and line plots.
	•	Sample Activities:
	•	Solve real-world problems involving measurement (e.g., baking, building).
	•	Conduct simple class surveys and represent data in graphs.
	•	Practice time-telling exercises with analog clocks.

Geometry 
	•	Key Concepts:
	•	Identify and classify 2D shapes (triangles, quadrilaterals, etc.) and 3D shapes (cubes, spheres, etc.).
	•	Understand symmetry.
	•	Calculate the perimeter and area of rectangles and composite figures.
	•	Sample Activities:
	•	Create art projects involving symmetrical patterns.
	•	Measure and calculate the perimeter of objects in the classroom.
	•	Build 3D shapes using modeling clay or paper.

VI. WEEK 21 -24 UNIT 6
 Problem Solving &  Application 

	•	Focus:
	•	Solve multi-step word problems across all topics.
	•	Apply math to real-life contexts.
	•	Use logical reasoning and estimation.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

	1.	Games and Activities:
	•	Multiplication bingo, fraction puzzles, and geometry scavenger hunts.
	2.	Technology Tools:
	•	Math apps 
	3.	Assessments:
	•	Weekly quizzes and cumulative tests after each unit.

 The goal of this full curriculum class is to provide enrichment and to help students excel in 3rd Grade Math.  This class curriculum is aligned with the Core Curriculum Standards for Mathematics. Each class has comprehensive learning objectives to help students succeed.  Students will be presented with concepts and skills essential for success and mastery of the material presented.   .
