This course is designed to help students in preparing for their high school's world language class. We’ll be using a U.S. school textbook that offers readings in both Mandarin and English. The explanations of grammatical skills are designed to be clear and easy to understand for American students. Along the way, students will also explore cultural aspects and enhance their vocabulary skills. It would be nice if your students were already familiar with Pinyin, but if not, that is still perfectly fine.

- Greetings
- Social gestures, such as asking how people are
- Introduction: Name and family name
- Pronouns
- Question words
- Common verbs
- SVO structure
- Simple sentences without verbs
- Sentences with adverbs
- Writing a self-introduction.


💡Topics for Mandarin 1
I will focus on the following topic for each class. I will adjust the pacing depending on students' level. 

⇢ Week of (5/27): Topic: Introduction Pin Yin

⇢ Week of (6/3): Topic: Greeting vocabularies or Characters

⇢ Week of (6/10): Topic: Greeting more than one person

⇢ Week of (6/17): Topic: Greeting people you know

💡Topic in this course are: Greetings, numbers, number related expressions, segment of a day, family members, measure words, body parts, color, positions, animals, places, classes, hobbies and interest, sports, daily schedule, food and drinks. 

💡After each lesson, students will receive important class notes for that day’s lesson. If you are interested in learning the language, please sign up for my class.

Learning Goals

Student will learn at least 250 characters by the end of the course. 
Student can use their knowledge to ask and answer simple questions in Mandarin. 
Student will have the knowledge of basic Chinese sentence structure.

I am currently a World Language Teacher at my local high school. 
I grew up in China with Chinese being my first language. Then I moved to the US I earned my B.A. in Chinese. During college, I participated in the Chinese-American essay contest on Chinese History and Culture and won the Honorable Mention. I also won 2nd place on the 31st Chinese Speech Contest.
