Class Experience

US Grade 5
This is 5th grade 18 week curriculum that is aligned with US national standards for the second half of the school year. It would be great as a review for 4th-6th grade students who need a little extra help or advanced 4rd grade students who want to be challenged. This is a traditional math class taught similar to class at school. Great for homeschoolers too! Contact me if you need a specific time scheduled and I can try to accommodate you!

Week 1: Decimals: Thousandths, Place Value to Thousandths, Comparing Decimals, Rounding Decimals
Week 2: Multiply Decimals by 10, 100, and 1,000, Divide Decimals by 10, 100, and 1,000
Week 3: Review,  Conversion of Measures, Mental Calculation
Week 4: Adding Decimals to Thousandths, Subtracting Decimals
Week 5: Multiplying by 0.1 or 0.01, Multiplying by a Decimal, Dividing by a Whole Number 
Week 6: Dividing by a Whole Number by 0.1 and 0.01, Dividing a Whole Number by a Decimal
Week 7: Geometry: Measuring Angles, Angles and Lines
Week 8: Classifying Triangles, The Sum of the Angles in a Triangle, The Exterior Angle of a Triangle
Week 9: Classifying Quadrilaterals, Angles of Quadrilaterals 
Week 10: Drawing Triangles and Quadrilaterals, Review
Week 11: Average, Line Plots, Coordinate Graphs
Week 12: Straight Line Graphs, Finding the Ratio
Week 13: Equivalent Ratios, Finding a Quantity
Week 14: Comparing Three Quantities, Word Problems
Week 15: Finding the Rate, Rate Problems
Week 16: Word Problems, Meaning of Percentage, Expressing Percentages as Fractions
Week 17: Percentages and Decimals, Expressing Fractions as Percentages
Week 18:Percentage of a Quantity, Word Problems

Paper and pencil are the only required materials. Slides will be taught in textbook fashion with interactive drill/practice features when possible. This class could have between 1-4 students, but can also be offered as a guaranteed 1:1 individual class if you prefer. Also, the sections will not be cancelled if there is 1 student enrolled. Please contact me for the pricing and information if you would like a customized class created for you. In group settings, all learners will have many opportunities to practice each skill individually and corrections will be made to ensure comprehension. Participation will ensure understanding. In guaranteed custom 1:1 settings, pacing is customized for your student ensuring the best understanding and retention of skills.

In addition to the live meetings, if requested, an independent practice activity will be posted after each meeting so that students can practice learned skills independently. This will be from the corresponding workbook listed below. These outside of class activities are optional but encouraged as part of the class experience.

The pre-requisite of this class is Book 5A of the Grade 5 Singapore Dimensions textbook or an equivalent curriculum (approved by teacher). Solid knowledge of multiplication facts and fractions is necessary for success in this grade level. 


This class is guaranteed not to be cancelled for low enrollment.

Parental Guidance
The math curriculum will be shared on screen during class. You may purchase your own copy for the student to write in at https://www.singaporemath.com/products/dimensions-math-textbook-5b?variant=40979855376573 if you would like but it is not mandatory.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
