US Grade 4 - 6
Not only is reading an essential life skill, but it can be a source of entertainment. In this course, students in 4th, 5th and 6th grade dive into classic novels for this age group. Through completing class activities, students will practice reading comprehension skills, identifying plot events, describing characters, determining problems, defining vocabulary words, and recognizing themes in books. Each week a to-do list will be posted with instructions for the week (watch the background videos, read, answer questions, define vocabulary, watch answer videos, complete Blooket quiz). The teacher will review submitted work and Blooket scores and provide weekly progress report messages on Fridays (if work was completed). The following books will be read: Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl Summary: A clever story about a sneaky fox, who steals from farmers to feed his family. Frindle by Andrew Clements Summary: A humorous story about Nick Allen's ongoing word battle with his language arts teacher, Mrs. Granger. Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit Summary: A coming of age story where a young girl, Winnie, meets a family with a dangerous secret. Number the Stars by Lois Lowry Summary: A World War II story of friendship about Annemarie and her friend Ellen during Nazi occupation in Copenhagen. Among the Hidden by Margaret Haddix Summary: A futuristic story about a boy, Luke, who is not supposed to exist, and the risks he takes.
