Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this small (1-3 learner) class setting, students will participate in projects that inspire a love of writing through different weekly projects. We will use writing in a variety of lessons and styles. This one time class can be taken multiple times. Record: 28 times for several students.

Each class will focus on confidence building, public speaking, problem solving and creativity. If your student enjoys animals, Ms. Leslie might ask them to jump on the back of a wild stallion and ride from one side of their state to the other, saying and writing what they see along the way. If your student loves donuts, we might start a donut shop, describing the process and customers.

We may write Thank You notes or create, draw and write pages in a book all about kindness. We may write love notes to those people who care about us. This is a confidence building, creative writing class.

We will use sentence starters, games, handing stories back and forth and art to inspire stories. The goal of this class is to fall in love with different types and styles of writing, while growing self esteem and confidence.

Priority: Practice writing in all different ways! Find the ways that feel great to you!!

Learning Goals

Hello from Teacher Leslie. 🙂
I am honored to have 14 years of experience as a Confidence and Kindness Mentor to children ages 7-11. I teach social skill and confidence classes, using art and conversation, as well as Writing and Drawing games, designed to encourage creativity, social skills, manners and confidence.

All of my classes focus on five fundamental skills. Public speaking, writing, drawing, writing and time management.

Good manners, compliments, kindness and confidence are encouraged throughout my classes.

Fun fact? When I was younger, I was terrified of heights. I taught myself how to listen to my body rather than my mind when faced with challenges. I am happy to report I have bungee jumped twice, once forward and once backwards, off the highest legal bungee jumping bridge in the United States. I have skydived. I have gone on three scenic glider rides! I help children overcome fears and apprehension by learning how to listen to the bravest side of themselves.

I was recognized in 2023/24 as an Outschool Outstanding Educator. I was nominated in 2023 for Outschool's Best in Review "Highest Rated Educator". I have over 1,126 five star reviews.

I have a B.S. Degree in Psychology. Fourteen years ago I shifted from a 25 year career in Finance to teaching Kindness and Confidence lessons in K-4th grade classrooms. I use my business experience and my social skills to teach young ones how to believe in themselves.

I return messages promptly. I debrief after every class. I let parents know specifically what we did in class and comment specifically on student participation. Parents say they appreciate this prompt, personal feedback.

My personal goal in every class:
Do you remember positive teachers from your childhood? Those adults that made you feel like you were included, seen, heard and valued? That even today, as an adult, you remember because of how they made you feel? That is my goal for every class I teach. I encourage students to speak, draw or write (ideally all three), in a safe and supportive environment and to express themselves and their unique viewpoints! I want students to feel empowered, safe, brave, creative and to let their silly side show when they do projects with me.

I love to learn new things. I love inspiring, motivating and teaching students how to believe in themselves. I love being a paper artist. I love being able to bring kids together to feel their best, while giving their best. I love my family, gardening, building furniture, paper art, problem solving, people who try hard, going on walk and talks, bike rides, Elmo’s positive outlook, good communicators, tennis, playing cards, ping pong, meditation and I looooove belly laughing. Most of all, I love teaching kindness and confidence lessons to kids. -Teacher Leslie
