In this special confidence building "Would you Rather" game, students do more than make decisions. They listen, write, draw and present answers and stories to the class. *This one-time class can be taken multiple times. New clues daily. In a very small group setting (1-3 students) Ms. Leslie will pose questions. For example: Would you Rather sit next to a very smart person or a very funny person on a long car trip? Why? Students consider options, write and draw answers, then present answers to the class, along with their reasoning. Next, students write or tell a story, using their answers. This is a confidence building class. If I did my job right, your student will run to you after class to show you their answer sheet. Kindness and Confidence building are the number one goals in this class. Facts: Playing games like "Would you Rather" helps children practice weighing decisions, making decisions and explaining the reasoning behind the decision. This practice helps grow confidence. Feeling Included: I am an expert at inclusion. Your child will immediately feel at ease, welcomed and ready to learn. Is your learner shy or quiet? This is the right class for them. One time or 100 times: This is a one-time class that can be taken multiple times. The clues and players change every day, but the process stays the same, creating an immediate familiarity/confidence for returning players. Come once or come often. Many students have taken this class 10, 20 even 30 times. Clues change daily. ESL/ELL Students: I have taught many children from Asia, in particular Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan. This is a simple and enriching way to practice writing, drawing and conversation. ESL and ELL students can Practice Speaking English Confidently in this fun and simple game. Note: ESL and ELL students should be able to write simple sentences without assistance and be able to read their sentences to the class. Hello from Teacher Leslie. 🙂
I am honored to have 14 years of experience as a Confidence and Kindness Mentor to children ages 7-11. I teach social skill and confidence classes, using art and conversation, as well as Writing and Drawing games, designed to encourage creativity, social skills, manners and confidence.
All of my classes focus on five fundamental skills. Public speaking, writing, drawing, writing and time management.
Good manners, compliments, kindness and confidence are encouraged throughout my classes.
Fun fact? When I was younger, I was terrified of heights. I taught myself how to listen to my body rather than my mind when faced with challenges. I am happy to report I have bungee jumped twice, once forward and once backwards, off the highest legal bungee jumping bridge in the United States. I have skydived. I have gone on three scenic glider rides! I help children overcome fears and apprehension by learning how to listen to the bravest side of themselves.
I was recognized in 2023/24 as an Outschool Outstanding Educator. I was nominated in 2023 for Outschool's Best in Review "Highest Rated Educator". I have over 1,126 five star reviews.
I have a B.S. Degree in Psychology. Fourteen years ago I shifted from a 25 year career in Finance to teaching Kindness and Confidence lessons in K-4th grade classrooms. I use my business experience and my social skills to teach young ones how to believe in themselves.
I return messages promptly. I debrief after every class. I let parents know specifically what we did in class and comment specifically on student participation. Parents say they appreciate this prompt, personal feedback.
My personal goal in every class:
Do you remember positive teachers from your childhood? Those adults that made you feel like you were included, seen, heard and valued? That even today, as an adult, you remember because of how they made you feel? That is my goal for every class I teach. I encourage students to speak, draw or write (ideally all three), in a safe and supportive environment and to express themselves and their unique viewpoints! I want students to feel empowered, safe, brave, creative and to let their silly side show when they do projects with me.
I love to learn new things. I love inspiring, motivating and teaching students how to believe in themselves. I love being a paper artist. I love being able to bring kids together to feel their best, while giving their best. I love my family, gardening, building furniture, paper art, problem solving, people who try hard, going on walk and talks, bike rides, Elmo’s positive outlook, good communicators, tennis, playing cards, ping pong, meditation and I looooove belly laughing. Most of all, I love teaching kindness and confidence lessons to kids. -Teacher Leslie
