In this course, we will learn what ancient Egyptian mothers told their daughters about beauty - and all other aspects of life: the gods and goddesses that would protect them, marriage and childbirth, working in and outside the home...

ย Week 1Lesson 1Beauty, Learning, Love and Marriage, Childbirth and ChildrenMother explains: โ How to be alluring - skin protection, makeup (especially for your eyes), fashion, jewelry, perfume. โ Which gods and goddesses were most important for girls and women? โ Who should you marry? What if you and your husband don't get along? โ The secret rituals about pregnancy and childbirth. โ Why do we have so many children? โ How to be a good wife, mother and domestic head of the household.ย Week 2Lesson 2Work Inside and Outside the Home, Your Rights As a WomanDaughter asks (and Mother Explains): โ What should girls/women learn to be successful at in life? โ Why can't I be a scribe? โ I see women in the market selling things. can I do that someday? โ I like music and dancing. I see women do that. Is it OK to have that as a job? โ Can I give my children anything after I move on to the after-world?
Instead of learning about women in ancient Egypt through facts, students will learn about women through imagined conversations between mother and daughters based on what it was like to be a woman in ancient Egypt. Learners will also discover that women had more rights in ancient Egypt than in many modern societies.
I hold a Certificate of Museum Studies from Harvard University and a Diploma in Egyptology from Oxford College in England. And Iโve been to Egypt three times on personalized, educational tours. I've been captivated by ancient Egypt since I was 10 years old. And I feel it's my destiny to share my enthusiasm for and expertise on this beautiful and brilliant 5000-year-old civilization with all of you. I hope to see you soon in this class. There will be an informal, fun quiz at the beginning of the class (which students can download before) to see how much they know about ancient Egyptian women, and I will go over the same quiz with the students to see what they've learned after the class.Grades Offered

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students and parents should be aware that much of Egyptian art and culture contains images of male and female nudity. Some talks between "mother and daughter " may be of a sensitive nature.
I will refer to the online Ancient History Encyclopedia and other websites which have excellent images and information on women in ancient Egypt.
