Everyone can learn to read! In this course, learners will gain fundamental reading skills with a focus on decoding, motivation, and encouragement. This class is meant for older readers who are reading at least 2 levels below grade level.

  • Learners will be able to read CVC, CVCC, and CCVC words (words with short vowel sounds, blends, and some digraphs).
  • Learners will recognize and read high frequency words with automaticity.
  • Learners will read with fluency and expression.
  • Learners will recognize the individual sounds in words and connect them to letters to decode (read) and encode (spell) words.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assignments
Frequency: 1-2 per week
Feedback: as needed
Details: Learners will receive resources for extra practice. These assignments are recommended but not required.
Assessment
Frequency: 7 or more throughout the class
Details: Learners will receive informal assessment and progress monitoring throughout this class.
Progress Report
Frequency: 1-2 throughout the class
Details: Learners will receive a progress report half-way through and upon completion of the course.
- This class is intentionally kept small to support students with unique learning needs such as learners with dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, and other learning differences. 
- This class uses a multi-sensory approach and explicit teaching.
- Learners should already recognize individual letter sounds.  
- Consider scheduling a 1:1 assessment with me to see if this is the right course for your learner.
