Details: During the weeks of this class, the student will independently work on their final project and post in the classroom during the last week of class. The student can do anything for their final project to summarize the book that they read. Here are some suggestions for their final project: 1. Complete a Minecraft or Lego block build to post in class to reinforce their reading comprehension. The student could create a build that reflects on their reading (example: Rocky Mountain National Park habitat/biome). The student is welcome to use any Minecraft platform they have access to and will be building their Minecraft build on their own. 2. Per the book, "I believe all 62 are in there." Can you locate all 62 National Parks on a map? List the name of each National Park and the state that they are in. 3. Game that reflects the book. 4. Drawings that reflect on the student's reading (example: pictures from the scrapbook). 5. Try to make a topographical map as described in the book of where you live and the surrounding area. Do not list names such as towns/cities, etc. You can just state "store," "mountain," "river," etc. NO information that would be telling of the student's location of where they live to ensure the student's safety. 6. Write a letter to a family member or friend using Morse code. Include in your letter five new facts from your reading. 7. Your choice on your final project as long as it reflects your reading of the book.
Students will need to be able to have access to their version of Minecraft if this is part of their final project. Students will need their own access to the book, "National Park Mystery Series: Mystery in Rocky Mountain National Park" by Aaron Johnson.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Parental guidance needed as screening of learner's Minecraft shares may be posted in classroom for final project. Student may be posting final project via screenshots which may be posted in classroom. Please ensure that the student is not providing too much information if they do topographical map to ensure their safety (see above in description of that possible final project).
