Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
This class is for younger artists who want to practice painting with acrylics together!
We'll have brand new subjects every week, and step-by-step instruction.

We'll practice essential painting skills, including:
--color mixing --handling a paintbrush --backgrounds
--blending colors --simple shading --textures

Subjects might be: birds, animals, plants, landscapes, mushrooms, scenery, mountains, fish, flowers, seasons, butterflies, the night sky, silhouettes, sunsets... learners get to suggest new topics at the end of each month! What would you like to paint?

Here are our upcoming paintings:

Lessons are interactive and I welcome student participation! We'll start each class with a quick sketch (if needed). Then we'll begin painting together, step-by-step!
Usually we start with the background, and then work from back to front, large to small.

I'll give students as much time as possible for each step, but those who work slowly are welcome to finish with the recording after class. Students may ask questions or have me check their work as needed. At the end, we'll have (optional) share time for our paintings!

My goal is not only to teach students how to paint a particular object, but to help them practice the skills they need to paint anything they want! Students are welcome to add or change details and use their creativity if they desire.

I've taught art classes for over fifteen years, from little kids to high school seniors! Everything from drawing to sculpture to painting. I think the best way to teach good technique is to show kids what to do (but leave plenty of room for them to be creative). I'm here to chew bubblegum, have fun and make art; and I'm all out of bubblegum... ;)
