 Week 1
Lesson 1
Laban Method
Students will be introduced to the Laban method and its effect on characterization, first through discussion, and then through practice and movement. Sides will be assigned for the end of the week.
Lesson 2
"Mask" Acting and Vocalization
Students will be introduced to “mask” acting and its effect on characterization through exercises, followed by a discussion of vocalization. Sides will be revisited using the methods discussed thus far.
Lesson 3
When and How
Students will participate in a discussion of how and when to apply these techniques by looking at various styles of monologues, scenes, and performances.
Lesson 4
Action Words
In addition to the Laban method, “mask” acting, and vocalization, students will be encouraged to apply action words to their character work. We will practice by working through sides using new action words.
Lesson 5
Performance of Sides!
To practice their new characterization skills, gain confidence, and see how varied a performance can be through different interpretations and approaches to characters, students will perform their finished sides for the group as well as give written feedback to peers (reviewed by instructor before being passed out). Please note that feedback from peers and the instructor will be sent the day after bootcamp’s conclusion.
