Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
In this 8 lesson course we will learn about the Elements of Art! I will be demonstrating the projects and techniques in a series of step-by-step videos & slideshows. Students will explore a variety of media.

Lesson 1: Element of Line: In this assignment we will learn several zentangle patterns and complete an artwork using these patterns.

Lesson 2: Element of Color: Students will learn about the color wheel and go on a color scavenger hunt to create their own!

Lesson 3: Element of Shape: This lesson students will learn about shape. Students will create a composition of geometric shapes featuring warm and cool colors.

Lesson 4: Element of Value: This lesson we will learn about value. Students will create an abstract value drawing. Students will learn to shade and blend values in pencil.

Lesson 5 & 6: Element of Form & Texture! We will use model magic clay to create pinch pots. I will demonstrate how to create vessels and add texture to their design! This is a two lesson project due to clay & paint drying time.

Lesson 7: Element of Space: Students will create landscape in watercolor. We will create a watercolor painting focusing on atmospheric perspective.

Lesson 8: Students will create a choice artwork demonstrating 3 of the 7 Elements of Art from the course.

I have taught high school art for 18 years! Last year I had the opportunity to teach middle school students remotely and loved it! I have taught a variety of courses over my career such as: Fine Arts 1 & 2, Introduction to Photography, Pottery 1 & 2, Introduction to Jewelry, Introduction to Crafts, Introduction to Sculpture, Design 1 & 2.

I believe creating art is a process. It takes making a mess, mistakes and trying again! Creating art is a method of communication with the world!

When I'm not creating art, I love cooking, reading, spending time with friends & family!
