Learners will journey through the foundations of algebra with interactive lessons and real-world applications, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience. Elevate your math skills while having a blast – join us for the Algebra Avalanche and begin to conquer the slopes of algebraic excellence! Session 1 & 2: Arithmetic Fundamentals: Review and reinforce basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of integers, fractions, and decimals. Session 3: Properties of Numbers: Explore the order of operations and properties of numbers. Session 4: Introduction to Expressions, Variables, and Equations: Understand the concept of variables and how they are used in mathematical expressions and equations. Session 5: Creating and Solving Equations: Learn techniques for creating and solving basic linear equations and inequalities, developing problem-solving skills. Session 6: Common Factors and Factorization: Session 7: Exponents and Radicals: Session 8: Rates, Ratios, and Proportions Session 9: Graphing Basics: Introduce graphing on the coordinate plane and interpreting simple graphs related to linear equations. Session 10: Polynomials and Factoring: Explore polynomials, monomials, and binomials, and understand the process of factoring. She is also the founder of Flying Start, an education organization providing educational learning opportunities in math and computer science. Mrs. Burns has a Bachelor of Arts in French (minor: Art History; University of Illinois at Chicago, 2006) and a Master of Arts in Teaching (National-Louis University, Chicago, Illinois 2010). She is an Apple Distinguished Educator and a Google for Education Certified Trainer.
Karrin Burns enjoys using inquiry-based learning and design-thinking in her classroom to maximize student learning as well as encourage student voice and choice. She believes education and entrepreneurship go hand-in-hand, cultivating creative thinkers through establishing an innovative idea-driven atmosphere.
