What's included
1 live meeting
25 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1-2 hours per week. Students will need to review the lesson material, which includes games and reading activities, such as the lesson story or practice phrases. I suggest reviewing for 10 - 20 minutes on the days we do not meet.Class Experience
Individualized, learner-directed, once a week All About Reading Lessons for levels 1-4. A great class option for individual students, friends, and siblings. Please message me to set up a sibling/friend class. Level 1 students will need to have some experience with the alphabet. Students do not need to know all of the letters but they should be able to identify most of them. For example: A says /a/ (short a), C says /k/, etc. (If they still forget a few that's fine. We will be practicing them as we learn to read). Classes will begin with a phonogram (letter) review. After review, a new concept will be introduced and we will do activities to reinforce the current lesson. Activities may include additional stories, games, videos, and songs. Students will be practicing: Letters & Sounds, Blending, Decoding, Sight Words, Word Families, Rhyming, and Comprehension. Weekly lessons will be individualized (LEARNER-DIRECTED) to the student(s) but will generally follow the All About Reading Schedule which includes: Level 1: the 53 level 1 lessons and 3 review days Level 2: the 57 level 2 lessons and 3 review days Level 3: the 54 level 3 lessons and 3 review days Level 4: the 64 level 4 lessons and 2 review days TO SIGN UP FOR CLASSES: please message me to indicate which level and lesson your student needs. This class meets ONCE a week. However, by combining classes your student can have 1 to 4 days a week of classes. Please let me know in your message the number of days you prefer. *Note: Most students will need a day between classes for review. *If your student needs to be assessed for level placement please message me to set up a private lesson. **Please have your student bring their reader on story days*** On days we are not in class, please spend 10-20 minutes reviewing the AAR lesson materials. The student packet includes phonograms, words to practice, pages to practice reading, and game activity pages. I suggest using the activities with your student on days we do not meet to reinforce the lesson. Additionally, please read the stories with your child after we have completed them in class. During most story lessons we will read one of the lesson stories. Please have your learner read the second story and reread the story we practiced in class. Rereading stories is a great way to practice fluency. *Most of our activities will be done online. Occasionally, we will work on activity pages from the activity book. Activities may need to be cut out to play. (A few activities need to be glued or stapled). You can cut out the activities before class if you would like your student to use their own during class (some students really like being able to touch their own game pieces). I will also show the activities through my desk camera or through Google Drive so it is not necessary to cut these out before class. Sometimes during class, we may color or write letters. I will sometimes send out a color or writing page before class. Please have any printouts, pencils, and markers/crayons/colored pencils available during class. Any printouts will be found in the classroom messages. You will receive an email notice when this occurs. Students will need to have purchased their own copy of the curriculum before class. Required materials include: the student packet and the 3 readers. Here is a link to the curriculum: https://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/all-about-reading-level-1/. You may be able to find materials on Ebay or Rainbow Resource Center (I suggest ordering the color edition if you order from someplace other than AAR). https://www.rainbowresource.com/category.jhtm?cid=2392 If you have questions about All About Reading or need help selecting a level please message me. **Policy** Per Outschool policy, if a student is more than 10 minutes late, it will be considered a missed class and not eligible for a refund. If no students have arrived at a class by 12 minutes after the start time I will end the class. If a student needs to cancel class, I will offer a reschedule when possible or issue a refund, as long as I am notified more than 24 hours in advance. In the case of a teacher scheduling conflict, I will offer to reschedule the class or issue a refund for the missed class. Thank you so much for respecting my time. :o)

Hello!
My name is Kate. I am a homeschool mom, small farm owner, herbalist, gluten-free baker, online teacher, and lover of books. I have taught for over 20 years: home school, alternative education, small co-ops, and as a substitute in public schools. Additionally, I have taught English as a Second Language online with VIPKid and Cambly for over 6 years. It has been amazing meeting and working with students around the world. I love getting to know each of my students and helping them learn new things in a fun way.
All About Reading: 20 years ago, when I first began teaching reading, I was trained in the Spaulding reading method. Spaulding is based on Orton-Gillingham and is similar to the All About Reading Program. When I was introduced to All About Reading I was hooked. All About Reading provided the sequential layout that I loved from Spaulding in an easier layout. I also loved the games that provided a multi-sensory experience for my students. I love to use games when I am teaching. I think learning should be enjoyable. In my reading classes, we turn the All About Reading program into fun online games.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing your child in my class.
(A little about my family and philosophy: I have two homeschool graduates and two young learners. Throughout our homeschool journey, we learned, we grew, we did better next time, and we found success. I believe it is important to meet children where they are. To strengthen their weaknesses and support their strengths while having fun and encouraging them to be who they were meant to be. )
