Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 5
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Are you tired of seeing your learner struggle with mental math?

Have you considered they are suffering from math anxiety?

It's a huge barrier for thousands of students especially students with special needs.

They don't have to suffer if we put things in place for them to become successful while having fun.

A huge source of math anxiety is not performing math skills quickly. Solving problems quickly and accurately involves math fact fluency. Math fact fluency "frees up brainpower or working memory to do more complex mathematical work," (Sawchuk , 2023).

So many students with ADHD/ADD, Autism, Learning Disabilities (e.g. Dyscalculia), and more struggle with learning more complex mathematics because they are not fluent in their math facts in addition and subtraction.

__________

Class Description

In this intensive ongoing private tutoring class, learners will receive a scaffolded, systematic, and engaging math fact fluency intervention. This intervention is research and evidence-based and will use different instructional strategies to increase the math fact fluency of all learners. Learners will engage in game-based activities and direct instruction within their math fact fluency focus. They will receive instruction with the usage of slides and will have the opportunity to debrief each game/activity they completed by reflecting on their performance.

Learners will receive consistent feedback and coaching from their tutor in an inclusive, safe, interactive, and supportive learning environment. Additionally, I will support your learner teaching them how to build his/her/their confidence as a mathematician.

Students will learn:
-Addition Facts (e.g. adding 10)
-Subtraction Facts (e.g. subtracting within 20)

The scope and sequence of the lessons will follow Dr. Nicki Newton's math fact fluency sequence of math facts which you can find here: https://mathrunningrecords.com/research.

Learners will meet 2 times per week in order to have one day to focus on addition and one day to focus on subtraction fact fluency.

Pre-Requisite: Students must be able to identify whole numbers independently.
