Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
Are you looking for a 1:1 weekly Public Speaking, Presenting, Confidence Building, or a combination of several of these areas?

This 1:1 class can be adapted, tailored, and personalized to address the specific areas your learner wants/needs to concentrate on.

We can work on learners' use of voice (with areas such as pitch, precision, pace, projection, volume, intonation, accent, emphasis, articulation/elocution, diction, tone, pauses, breath control, fluency, and expression) and their non-verbal (with areas such as posture, body language, gestures, facial expressions, stance, muscular tension, poise, and status) for public speaking, presenting themselves better or they can learn how to use these areas to sound, appear and ultimately build their confidence.

As this is a personlized curriculum learners can choose to work their way through:
-A different published speech each week or a particular level of prose, which increases vocabulary, understanding, and skill level.

Whatever level you choose classes will begin with some carefully chosen vocal and mouth warm-ups, and we'll look at different voice and non-verbal techniques each week by exploring a piece of text (prose) from a famous literary classic.

As a fully qualified, experienced teacher (BAPA, PGCE), professional actor, and director, who has also worked as many types of presenter and used many of these techniques to build her own confidence and develop her use of voice and non-verbal presentation, Mrs. T can give extra on the spot tips, and ideas where needed. Developing the class content live in class or as learners' skills and needs develop week to week.

Learners will also get regular feedback with tips they can continue to build on both live in class, and often afterward in notes in the classroom.

'I would like to thank you with an update, previously shy D achieved a place in the semi-finals for his year 6 speech competition! I saw him practicing with hand gestures, voice tone, and pauses that you taught him over his classes last term break. I am so pleased to see him breaking out of his shell and stepping up. Thank you'
Learning Goals
In each class, learners will learn and develop different voice, and non-verbal techniques. They will also develop their confidence, focus, attention to detail and see what they are capable of when they venture outside their comfort zone.

Non-US Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Southampton
I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching Drama (and some Music, PSHCE, and English) to 11 to 15 years olds and Performing Arts to 16 to 18 year olds in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time, including running small group and 1:1 confidence-building workshops. I also have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like create a play in a week) and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16.

As a professional actress, I've performed to children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties,  nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way.

I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, some TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos and have a regular podcast.

I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself.

I am very experienced in coaching learners to produce their best performance, and I love seeing them develop in front of my eyes. Many of my ex-students have gone on to study at prestigious London stage schools in acting and directing, even though we are over 200 miles away, and they only take a small number from out of the catchment area each year. I have also coached learners on all different levels, like one who didn't wish to speak when I started working with him (aged 10) but he ended up playing the lead role in his final year production (aged 15).
