Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
Have you been thinking about improving your learner's public speaking skills and confidence, but not sure how?

I have developed a tried, tested, and repeatedly proven method that has 6 clear areas of public speaking skills. Over this 6 week course we can cover all 6, and the best bit is once learned these can be applied to any form of public speaking from a poem, speech, piece of prose, interview response, competition entry, original speeches, impromptu speeches, and even Shakespeare.

In this class we will start by applying these skills to published poems, freely available on the internet. You can choose whether we look at 5 different poems or apply the skills to just one or two (you can even suggest a specific poem you would like your learner to work on, for example for a class task or competition piece).

Each class will start with a voice warm-up specifically designed to improve learners' articulation, pronunciation, and enunciation (meaning they will walk away from this course with a collection of 6 they can use in the future to carry on their improvements). Also a quick fun tongue twister exercise from Mrs. T's collection. Before we approach our poem for that week, and apply a key public speaking skill.

I will support and encourage learner's development (and help build their speaking confidence) live in the class, and also follow up with tips in the classroom.

After class learners will be encouraged to try to learn their poem by heart (this is great practice for future poem tasks, oratory presentations, festivals, and competitions) revising the key skill as they do.

Upon completion of this course, learners can repeat the course again with different poems (to solidify learning even more), go onto a weekly 1-on-1 class with more poems, or swap to looking at speeches, or even prose next if they wish.

In a similar class learners have achieved massively improved levels of confidence (one going from being scared to speak in front of their class to volunteering to present a poem in front of the whole school and parents), another achieved an A* grade (having not done any public speaking before working with me), another got a Gold, and best in class in an international online competition as an ESL learner up against native speakers.
Learning Goals
Learners will learn about 6 key public speaking techniques, which they can use in ANY form of public speaking after the course.
Learners will develop their public speaking confidence through a chance to practice, and the new skills gained.
