Every young person has the potential to create positive change in our world. As global citizens, youth can take action on issues ranging from climate change to education, from reducing inequalities to building sustainable communities. Through this one-hour virtual workshop, students will explore what it means to be a global citizen, discover the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and learn how they can contribute to creating a better future for all.

This workshop introduces students to what it means to be a global citizen in today's interconnected world. Through interactive activities, students will explore sustainable development through its three pillars - helping them understand how these connect to their daily lives. Students will discover the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which provide a framework for addressing global challenges like climate change, quality education, and reducing inequalities by 2030. These goals serve as a roadmap for young people to identify issues they care about and ways they can take action in their own communities.

Throughout the hour, students will engage in interactive activities including polls, group discussions, and collaborative research. They will choose one SDG to explore in depth, researching its targets and identifying ways they can take action in their own lives. The workshop concludes with students reflecting on their role as global citizens.
The objective is not only to learn about the UN and SDGs but to help students think critically about global issues and their own potential to create change. The instructor provides open-ended questions and scenarios that encourage students to develop their own perspectives on global citizenship and sustainable development.

This workshop is designed for ages 9-13, with no prior knowledge required. Students will need a device with internet access, camera, and microphone to participate in this virtual experience.

学習到達目標

Students will explain what sustainable development means in their own words and identify at least one way they can personally contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals in their daily lives.

教師の専門知識と資格
I hold a master’s degree in international development and have approximately two years of experience facilitating workshops on global citizenship in both virtual and in-person settings. These sessions have been delivered across diverse educational contexts, from classrooms in Canada to Southeast Asia, engaging students from kindergarten to grade 12. I have also developed programming and workshops for pre-service and in-service educators, helping them integrate global citizenship education into their classrooms. This combination of practical teaching experience and professional development work has equipped me with the skills to make global concepts accessible, engaging, and meaningful for learners of all ages.
