In this exciting ongoing class, we'll embark on a journey through the fascinating world of supernatural creatures that have captured the imaginations of people in Japan for centuries. From mischievous spirits to legendary beasts, Japanese Youkai are as diverse as they are mysterious, each with its own unique powers and stories.  

In this ongoing enrichment, we'll discover how these mystical beings have shaped Japanese culture, appearing in ancient legends, modern anime, and even video games. We'll learn about famous Youkai like the mischievous kitsune (fox) and the shape-shifting tanuki (raccoon dog), and uncover the tales that surround them. Get ready to explore ancient forests where spirits dwell, dive into deep waters inhabited by mysterious creatures, and roam through bustling cities where Youkai roam unnoticed by most.  

Jasmine is an enthusiastic Japanese language teacher on Outschool who is passionate about Japan and teaching.  Her greatest attribute in genuinely connecting with students in an authentic and fun way.  Through interactive storytelling, games, and creative activities like drawing, she will help you unravel the secrets of these legendary beings and understand why they continue to captivate the hearts and minds of people young and old.  Each week, you will receive a youkai profile that you will fill in bio information to add to your ongoing collection.  Depending on the youkai, we will look at old artwork, videos, and other interesting visuals to get to know the creatures better.

Jasmine lived in Japan for over fifteen years and is a Japanese language teacher on Outschool.  She has a successful ongoing club on Outschool, KOI POND, that has been wildly popular amongst her students with over 200 classes to date.  KOI POND is a place for her students to come together to learn more about Japanese culture and language.  Many students have continued in this highly informational club for nearly four years.  While Youkai Quest is not a Japanese language course, students will encounter many Japanese words and concepts that Jasmine-sensei will explain.
