Students will be able to:
-write a topic sentence and clincher (conclusion sentence) for a paragraph.
-identify important and interesting details from a source text.
-summarize key facts using 3 key words (avoid plagiarism).
-write key word outlines to plan each essay or story.
-write a clear and cohesive paragraph with a topic sentence, clear and supporting details, and a final clincher.
-write a 3 paragraph report with an introductory statement and final clincher.
-ask questions about a picture to create a story.
-write a reflective paragraph using a prompt.
-write a 5 paragraph persuasive essay using a prompt.
-write an introduction and conclusion paragraph with 3 body paragraphs to create a classic 5 paragraph essay.
-use a variety of dress-ups (adjectives, verbs, ly adverbs, who/which clauses, and subordinate clauses) and other advanced techniques (alliteration, quotations, dress-up teeter totters) to make their writing more specific and engaging.
-begin sentences 6 different ways (subject, preposition, ly adverb, ing word, clausal, and very short sentence) to make their writing more interesting.

I am a registered IEW instructor. I have taught writing to 4th-8th graders in public and private school settings.

I will give written comments on all assignments. I will add a grade if the parent chooses to have a grade assigned.
In class, I will verbally assess students understanding through questions and practice in class.
