In this class, learners will meet with me over the course of the year to write a novel. We will cover all the essential elements of writing a book, then dive deeply into topics like character, description, setting, voice, plot, pacing, and virtually everything else that goes into creating a really dynamic work of fiction. I tend to follow the Ms. Frizzle School of Educator Vibes, so my teaching style is super dynamic and highly interactive! Students should come ready to learn and to share their own work and respond to the work of others. I highly encourage asking questions, trying again and again, (even if that means falling on our faces sometimes!) and being excited about learning. I love to create environments in all my classrooms that are encouraging and funny while also being thorough and advanced and nuanced with content. Students will interact with me during class discussions, lecture, workshops, and with material feedback I will provide to every learner in the class outside of the meeting time. I provide feedback outside of class on ALL workshop assignments and, beyond that, will review in detail up to 10 double spaced pages of prose for your student to keep.
