This class coordinates with either my World History 2 course or my Enlightenment and Romanticism in Context history courses. I highly recommend taking my Literary Analysis Essay Writing course prior to or concurrent with this course to develop your literary writing skills. This is the 3rd part in a 4 part, year-long World Literature course. This 8 week, semester course will explore the 3rd quarter of World Literature--the early modern world. We will explore pieces of great literature from a variety of locations and time periods. This course will explore the historical context for each piece within its geographical context, as well as the literary features of the writings. We will read a variety of genres of writing from the most significant World writers. Our focus each week will be a particular author or piece as representative of each greater literary movement. Students will be expected to read outside of class and come to class prepared to discuss their reading. There will be writing assignments each week that students can submit for additional feedback and assessment. This class is perfect for literary lovers, history lovers, or anyone just curious about world history and literary culture. From a former student, "Your literature classes really prepared me well for college but also continued developing my critical thinking skills, world view, and love of learning." Week 1-Don Quixote Week 2-Ottoman Divan poetry Week 3-Gulliver's Travels Week 4-Qing dynasty Week 5-Jane Eyre Week 6-Romanticism poetry Week 7-Edo period poetry Week 8-Pride and Prejudice
