When possible I use content-based video clips that use humor to encourage learner participation and questions. I enjoy having a lesson develop organically based on learner interests about the content. Primary Sources may include: film footage, relevant artwork, music, and other media sources that support each topic. Learners are provided weekly review games on either Kahoot! or Blooket.

This history semester deals with the idea of an empire's supremacy and how its effects on nations that were occupied by totalitarian forces in Africa, Europe, and Asia during WW2. Any posters or government propaganda used that supports Hitler's Nazi government, Mussolini's government or Japanese occupation is used as a primary source to put the world events in context for the learners. I do not support the views of these fascist governments and any quotes or statements from point of view of their supporters in history are to help learners see what was happening in the world during their time in power. In class, learners will not be asked to roleplay any of these viewpoints. Learners will be asked to think of those who went against these views. Some political cartoons use symbolism that will be offensive to many learners but is essential to understand history by using them as evidence and to analyze how they came to power and ruled with fear. Again, the political cartoons are not a reflection of my personal views but are essential to analyze if we are to understand how some concepts and ideas of hate and prejudice continue today. In analyzing and discussing these historical images and ideas we can move to a common understanding of the issues that continue today.
As we will be discussing a time of war, there will be a discussion of the death and destruction that was a byproduct of war. I will avoid using images that are overly graphic. While I don't focus on numbers and dates, I do want learners to be aware of the extended suffering that war brings, not only to those in the military but to their families and friends, on both sides of a war.
It is impossible to discuss the Holocaust without talking about Judaism, as well as the terms Gypsy, disabled, and homosexual, as people who identified with these groups were targeted as victims of the Nazi regime.
