This summer get your beginner reader to the next level!  This fun filled camp will help your child learn frequently used word endings, also called word families. Word families can be built upon to create new words.  Word families are building blocks for students to have a successful journey in beginning reading.  *Students should be familiar with letter sounds.  

Students will practice the sound of the word family ending.  Next, students will think of a beginning sound to add to the word family ending to create new words.  As we are creating, students are encouraged to write new words on their very own word family house template (templates will be sent after enrolling).  At the end of each session, students will enjoy a game of word family bingo! 


Class Schedule:
Day 1: Word families- -at, -ad, -ag
Day 2: Word families: -an, -am, ap
Day 3: Word families: - ig, -it, -ip
Day 4: Word families: - ox, -ow, -og
Day 5: Word families: -ot, -oo, -op
Day 6: Word families: -in, -et, -ug

Students will learn to create different words with word families.  This activity will help build their vocabulary and confidence while reading.

When students are enrolled, they will receive the word family house template and bingo cards for the 6 days of class.  Bingo cards are all the same so every student will have a winning card.  If you are not able to print  please recreate the 9 squared bingo card  and word family house template on a sheet of paper.

Hello! I am Teacher Jennifer DeAnna.  I have 10 years of teaching experience teaching reading and English.  I taught ESL, middle school reading, and I supervised ESL teachers for an education program.   

I received an English Bachelors degree from Southern University and a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of New Mexico. 

I understand the importance of reading and helping kids to improve their reading skills and pronunciation of words.  To enhance the learning journey, I enjoy using props, a lot of energy and strategies to help students improve their confidence while reading.  

My goal is to make every class fun and full of laughter. I love to read.  I love to dance.  I enjoy writing books for kids.  I also love spending time with my husband and three kids. We enjoy traveling and watching movies as a family.
