Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
After discussing our weekly character, we will be pulling out the characteristics of that specific dragon and decide which aspects and positions would best benefit our sculptures. Possibly adding in extra accessories, like a pet (Silver the sloth, Talkatoo the cockatoo), scrolls, etc. This is not necessarily a "step by step" sculpting class, although students may follow along with me as I am sculpting. It is helpful for students to have some knowledge of the Book Series and the clay medium as well.

The Breakdown of Classes is in the Syllabus

I am ready to discuss any and all characters from this wonderful series! For reference, I try to keep the characters in order from first introduced towards the beginning of the class start date. The chapter books are listed below, if your learner is interested in reading them in order.

The Jade Mountain Prophecy

Book 6: Moon Rising (2015)

Book 7: Winter Turning (2015)

Book 15: The Flames of Hope (2022)

Wings of Fire Legends

Book 1: Darkstalker (2017)

Book 2: Dragonslayer (2021)

Note: If a student is not up to a particular character in the series, there may be spoilers.

For Wings of Fire Chapter Book and Graphic Novel fans, we will discuss what we know about each dragon prior to sculpting. No knowledge of the material is necessary. Students may wish to just join in to learn about all the different types of dragons and sculpt some pretty cool characters. We will work through The Dragonet Prophecy (first set of books), The Jade Mountain Prophecy, The Lost Continent Prophecy, plus Wings of Fire Legends, Queens and more!

All the Dragons in the Class Image were sculpted by me during classes.

Suggested Supplies:
Polymer Bake Clay in a variety of colors (Many of the Dragons use Black, Blues, Greens, Browns, White, Yellows)

Basic sculpting tools, rolling pin, a sharp cutting tool

Some wooden toothpicks are handy

A bit of Aluminum foil

OPTIONAL Supplies to take your creations to the next level of awesome :)
Glass beads/eyes (I use mainly 4mm and 6mm)

Mica Powders (these come in many colors, I use them in class often to add shimmer/color shift)

Acrylic paint pens work great for details (after baking)

**Polymer clay requires baking according to the package direction. (Generally ~275 °F, depending on your brand of clay). You will bake after class. Parental help is necessary.
