In a land formed by volcanoes and glaciers over millions of years, a variety of beautiful subarctic animals thrive. In this installment of the Wildlife Tours series, we will explore the unique ecosystems in Iceland and the many species of animals that live on Iceland's fjords, lava fields, mountains, and meadows. Topics covered include (minor changes may occur based on student interest): 1) The geography and ecology of Iceland 2) A brief history of Iceland and how humans contributed to Iceland's increased biodiversity 3) Case studies of specific animals including puffins, minke whales, Icelandic horses, harbour seals, and arctic foxes. 4) Adaptations that help these animals thrive in subarctic conditions This class will be an interactive lecture using slides, photos, and videos, as well as discussions throughout the class.
