Imagine that it's a sunny summer day and you arrive at your destination to hike with your family or friends. As you walk and talk, you are amazed by the beautiful views surrounding you. Students will learn about regions of the world where the teacher's wildflower photographs were taken. Students will learn how to write acrostic and haiku styles of poetry. Students will learn about pollinators. Students will paint several types of wildflowers including lupines using acrylic and watercolor paints. Students will practice using acrylic and watercolor paint.
The teacher has a master's degree in Integrating Arts into the Curriculum and is thrilled to have Outschool as a platform to teach what she loves. She just celebrated her one-year anniversary as a teacher on this wonderful platform. She was a kindergarten through 4th-grade teacher for thirty years and currently gives workshops for PBS Kids. Judy is fortunate to live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. On weekends and during the summer she has fun searching for wildflowers and hiking with friends, her husband, and two grown sons at Lake Tahoe, along the Pacific Crest Trail, in San Francisco, and in Northern California. She's hiked in Iceland and along the Camino de Santiago in Spain (twice!) for a total of almost 800 miles, once with her youngest son.
Art: Days 1 and 3 Watercolor Paper (2 sheets) 9" x 12" (a canvas would also work for the lupines painting) Tray of watercolor paints Fine Point or Extra Fine Black Sharpie marker (or any permanent black marker) Acrylic paints (pink or magenta, blue, purple, white, green, yellow) Plate or palette for mixing paint Small and medium-size brushes Q-tips to use for painting on Day One Paper Towels Water Table Covering and Paint Smock Poetry: Days 2 and 4 A few pieces of paper or a writing journal, eraser, and a pencil.
