Discover the history that isn't usually in the history books - if your learner likes pee, poop and all things yucky, this is the class for them. In this class, students will learn weird, wacky and yucky facts about different time periods in history. Each week will focus on a different theme. Learning will be discussion based and learners will be encouraged to give their opinions about the past. A variety of images will be shared during the sessions to promote learning. These will be a combination of age appropriate primary and secondary images. Week commencing 25th June Dentists This week, learners will explore what it was like to go to the dentist in the past. We'll look at Ancient Egyptian dental remedies and learn about how Queen Elizabeth I looked after her teeth. We'll also look at the start of modern toothpaste in the Victorian era. Week commencing 2nd July Food This week, we'll learn about some food people used to think we're dangerous and we'll learn about meals from different points in history. Week commencing 9th July Medicine In this session, learners will explore how doctors on medieval times used to diagnose illnesses. We'll also match some diseases to their yucky treatments. Week commencing 16th July Space Travel In this session, we'll learn how astronauts go to the bathroom. We'll also learn about the first person to pee on the moon and in a space craft. Learners will also discover some of the things that people have left behind on the moon. Week commencing 23rd July Fashion and Beauty In this session, we will look at different beauty standards from history. We will learn about how Elizabethans made themselves beautiful and how Ancient Romans dyed their hair. We will also learn about elaborate French wigs and what you might find in them. Week commencing 30th July Sports and games This class will look at some sports and games from history and use clues to guess what they are about. This includes some strange medieval English sports, to yucky 17th century South African games. Week Commencing 3rd August - Royals and Rulers This week, learners will discover some weird, wacky and yucky rulers from the past. We will look at some unusual rules from Roman Emperor Caligula, discover why Louis XIV build Versailles (and what it was lacking) and discover what monarch had blue pee. Week Commencing 11th August - Vikings This week, learners will explore the typical viking house and learn about how they made fire. We'll also look at Viking ships and helmets and talk about typical Viking pets. Week Commencing 19th August - Warriors In this session, learners will discover the armies of the Ancient Scythians and their very yucky weapons. They will also talk about Knights and how they fought and looked after the armour. We'll also look at Samurai techniques from the 1800s and discover the tools they used to sneak up on their enemies. Week Commencing 26th August - Flight In this class, learners will explore the development of flight from the Wright brothers to concorde. We'll look at pioneers of flight, including Charles Linberg and Harriet Quimby. We'll also discover the evolution of the plane toilet Week Commencing 13th May - Victorians This week, we will explore the Victorian era, including looking at food of the time, including unusual ice cream flavours and some strange meals enjoyed by the rich. We'll also look at the Great Stink and the very yucky job of Mudlarking Week Commencing 20th May - Pirates How did a Pirate use the toilet? What happens when a pirate ship is filled with cows? What kind of treasure did Pirates really take? This week, learners will explore the answer to all of these questions as we learn about real life on board a pirate ship. Week Commencing 27th May - Castles This week, we will explore the development of castles from Mott and Bailey castles, to stone castles and even cardboard castles. We'll also look at Castle toilets and how they got rid of the waste as well as looking at the invasion of Chateau Guillard in France. Week Commencing 3rd June - Medicine Learners will explore different medicine throughout the Middle Ages, Tudor and Stuart periods of British History. We will discover 'cures' for farting, the plague and general sickness and learn how frogs in butter could help your illnesses. Week Commencing 20th June - Inventions This week, we will look at the inventions of Da Vinci, as well as look at toy inventions from Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome and Ancient China (as well as the super soaker) We'll also look at the invention and development of the modern toilet. Week Commencing 17th June - Transport In this session, learners will explore the development of the bicycle and some famous bicycle travel pioneers. We'll look at ancient transportation and learn how Camel Trains navigated in the Sahara. We'll also look at some more modern developments in fuel for transport. Week Commencing 24th June - Ancient Egypt This week, we will look at the Cats in Ancient Egypt and how they helped the Persian Empire defeat the Egyptians. We'll also look at houses and furniture and learn about the role of 'Shepherd of the Royal Bottom" Week Commencing 1st July - Jobs Learners will use their skills of deduction to work out some weird, wacky and yucky jobs from history, including Purple Maker, Georgian Bath Attendant and Medieval Fuller. No prior knowledge is need for this course, however, it would be useful if your learner can understand the passing of time (e.g. have a concept that 1000 years ago is before 100 years ago). There will be some writing on the slides, however, I will also talk through the words. Classes will repeat after the end of the published dates.

In this class, we will be talking about a lot of 'yucky' facts, which will include references to poop and pee. We will also be talking about some unusual medical treatments from the past - some of which caused illness. This will be presented in an age appropriate way. Please ensure that you and your learner are comfortable discussing these topics before enrolling.
