Learn Spanish. Beginner Level Conversation.

This is a full curriculum semester class for beginner Spanish learners wanting to start speaking from day one with plenty of opportunities for practice.

US Grade 7 - 10
Beginner Level
This is a highly interactive class where students are expected to participate in the activities to practice the language. They are also encouraged to keep their cameras on as much as possible. 

 
CONTENT DESCRIPTION (Content might be modified based on the needs of the students)

Students will learn and practice the following communicative abilities:

Week 1: Telling my name and introducing myself to others.
Greet and ask questions about name and age. 
Use present tense of verbs "llamarse" and "tener".
Practice reflexive pronouns "me, te, see".
 
Week 2: Talking about important days of the year.
Ask questions about today's and important dates using numbers 1 to 31 and months.
Use adjectives "mi, tu, su" for first, second and third person.
Practice possessive forms using "de".

Week 3: Talking about different places to live.
Practice verb "vivir" in all forms to create affirmative and negative sentences. 
Use vocabulary related to different housing, adjectives to describe it and location.
Talk about villages, towns and cities, cardinal points and countries.
 
Week 4:  Describing myself. 
Use affirmative and negative verbs "tener" and "llevar" using all pronoun forms. 
Practice vocabulary related to hair, eyes, glasses etc.

Week 5:  Describing myself and others.
Ask questions about today's and important dates using numbers 1 to 31 and months.
Use adjectives "mi, tu, su" for first, second and third person.
Practice possessive forms using "de".

Week 6:  Talking about the family and getting along.
Describe your family size using "hay".
Give reasons why you get along with different family members "porque". 
Practice adjectives to describe personality and family member vocabulary.
Use reflexive verb llevarse.
 
Week 7: Describing your most at least favorite chool subjects.
Express likes and dislikes with verbs "gustarme", "encantarme" y "odio".
Use "nada" and "mucho" to describe levels of interest. 
Practice doble negation, gender and number agreement.
Give reasons using "porque" and adjectives to describe school subjects.
Use third person singular and plural of verb "ser".
 
Week 8: Sharing your school schedule.
Talk about your schedule using days of the week.
Tell time and describe beginning time of classes.
Use expanded school subject vocabulary.
Practice irregular present tense of verb "tener".

Week 9: Explaining food preferences.
Explain your likes/dislikes in food using reflexive verbs.
Practice food vocabulary.
Use "porque" and adjectives that describe food to explain your likes/dislikes.
Practice irregular verb "preferir" in present tense.

Week 10: Describing your free time activities.
Use frequency words and structures, "nunca, a veces, una vez al mes, casi siempre" etc.
Practice first person singular and plural of irregular verbs "ver, it, jugar, hacer" in present tense.
Describe your free time using vocabulary and expressions of common activities.

Week 11: Talking about your daily routine.
Use time and condition structures to describe when, what time or how often, "cuando tengo tiempo, durante la semana, por la noche, a mediodía" etc.
Practice daily routine verbs and vocabulary words in first person, "hago ejercicio, me ducho, ceno, juego a los videojuegos" etc.
Explain location using "en" and parts of the house vocabulary words, "en el comedor, en el salón, en el sótano" etc. 
  
Week 12: Describe clothing and weather conditions.
Explain weather conditions using "cuando" and impersonal verbs "hacer", "llover", "never".
Practice all pronoun forms of verb "llevar" in present tense.
Use vocabulary of common places and clothing items.
Learning Goals
The learning goals are based on the performance descriptors from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
LISTENING: 
To understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most personal immediate relevance (basic personal, family, local area, school). 
To catch the main point in short, simple messages and announcements.

Students are encouraged to have a pen and paper to hand write notes and/or responses during exercises and activities.
